Taster

"Taster" by Grandaddy
Put out the word we need a new taster
There's one king left and so much food to eat
The interception by the last one
Was absolute professionalism
If he's laying there saying he's sorry
Tell him, "It's okay, we learn this way"

Taster, you're the automatic saint
Taster, you're the automatic one

Rival sabotage a bad pot of duck stew
With just one breath left he warned the dinner crew
Selfless line of work the word that comes
To mind with me is selflessness
If he's laying down saying he's sorry
Tell him, "It's okay, we learn this way"

Taster, you're the automatic saint
Taster, you're the automatic one

I love how messed up this song is. I remember learning about tasters a few years ago—those people who had to taste the king's food before he ate it to make sure it wasn't poisoned. And this song is just, ugh, kind of thanking a taster who is in the process of dying.

"It's okay we learn this way." Oh man. The price of knowledge. And also the strangeness that comes with praising a noble death... "noble." It just comes off as sort of soulless. I connected with it immediately, lol.

I want to write but I don't have the energy to do it well.

Updates on my life?

- I finish school in 1 week
- I have a poster session on Wednesday, fuck
- next week, I have a Computer Programming that I have not had a second to study for
- I'm learning Portuguese
- 90% sure I'm asexual
- I feel Gone.

Next Saturday is prom. Then some final meeting with Brock, I'm pretty sure. My application for Brown orientation programs is due. Then there is graduation a couple of weeks after that. My cousins will be visiting during that time. Then I've got a couple graduation parties to attend. I go to Polly's to dog-sit for a week while she's in Lisbon. I go to Nevada and California soon after that for a family reunion and to stay with my grandparents, respectively. When I come back, Liv will have already left for this camp thing she's doing in Lake George and I will likely be moving into Brown late August.

It is going fast and I dunno how I feel. GOodnight.
