My Life Thus Far

Not A Single, Solitary Doubt

As bleak and desolate as I felt yesterday, it was a completely different story today. A day I can only describe as joyful. Like I was able to push the depression deep into the recesses of my mind long enough to allow myself a few hours of pure joy. Happiness in every sense of the definition. And I was spending that time with Snookums. Something we very rarely get to do.

I still worked today, but not until 5:30pm, so we had most of the day together once Snookums got home from school around 11:30am. He's trying to get in better shape, so he suggested we go for a walk in the park, then to lunch. He wanted to take me to Emmy's Vege House (my favorite little vegan joint on Bainbridge), but the only seating they have is outdoors (it's a very weird set up that works fine in summer, but not so much in winter). So, I suggested a little spot I'd seen on Google when I was looking for veg-friendly places for dinner awhile back. He did the pre-requisite Google search himself and approved of my suggestion. Our plans were set.

We took our walk in Battle Point. It's been awhile since I'd been there. It's our favorite walking destination during the spring-fall months, but we don't come much in the wintertime. Mostly because by the time the kids get out of school, there's not enough daylight to make it worthwhile. So we usually stick to places closer to home. Not that Bainbridge is all that far, but still. Anyhow, I digress... One lap around Battle Point is almost half of my daily steps and since I only worked a half day (5:30pm-10pm) I needed those extra steps. We even took a little detour down a hidden wooded trail to get a picture together. I can't remember the last time I took a picture of us, so it's definitely been awhile. Snookums thought my new tripod was the coolest thing ever. I wrapped it around a tree branch, set the timer, and the first shot we took was perfect. I think I captured our happiness, because even though we took several more shots, none of them compared to that first one. It's currently at 47 "likes" on Instagram. Not as impressive as the 100 "likes" my selfies usually get, but I attribute that to the dozens of salty men who don't want to like the fact that I'm married. Or to the few who have DMed me flat out voicing their dislike of who I'm married to. Fuck 'em. We may not be perfect, but there's not a single, solitary doubt in my mind that my husband loves me. Something many women (and men) can't say.

The little hole in the wall we had lunch at (Fork and Spoon) was adorable. I loved it. Right down to the paint color on the walls. I had quite possibly the best salad I've ever had. It was a warm quinoa and roasted Brussels sprout salad with dried cranberries and slivered almonds over local salad greens, with a creamy Dijon vinaigrette. To. Die. For. I gave Snookums a bite and he asked if I could recreate it at home. Hell yeah I will! It was delicious. We also had their Mango Ceylon iced tea that had the perfect hint of mango. It wasn't sweetened, but the mango flavor almost gave you the illusion that it was. We'll definitely be back.

When we got home, there was about 40 minutes until I needed to leave for work. Seemed only fitting we should lock ourselves in our room and hastily make love before one (or both) of the little ones broke into our bedroom. Needless to say, I left for work feeling pretty stellar. I forget how much I need him when days turn into weeks without us getting any real one on one time together.

I ran into another vegan!!! I stopped at Starbucks to grab a little pick me up on my way to work and there was this guy sitting in the corner on his laptop. He had almost the exact same stickers on it that I have on the back of my car! We got to chatting for a bit, and I ended up being late to work, but it was worth it. His name was Nick. I regret not getting some sort of contact info from him. Like if maybe he has an Instagram, since that's my only form of social media. Maybe we'll run into one another again someday. It was just way cool running into another vegan. Rationally I know there are others in the area, we're just not a very prolific bunch as of yet. Eventually. Give us time!
