Theler Wetlands

I'm so tired of waking up early. I knew I open tomorrow (well, later today), but I just looked at my schedule and realized I have to be there at 8am instead of 9am. I've been managing on 4-5 hours sleep most nights. I'm sure I'll be okay. I'm just so over it. Can holiday be done already?

I was off today, but we had an impromptu meeting this morning around external theft, how to handle shoplifters, and fostering diversity and inclusion within the store (with customers and associates). I think I mentioned earlier this week about the incident in an Alabama store where a manager accused black women of shoplifting when they weren't. The company is performing damage control and I'm not totally sure how I feel about it. I still think they're doing it to cover their asses, but I can't say it isn't a lesson a few of my coworkers couldn't use.

I'd planned all along to go hiking today. Originally I was going to do the Elbo Creek trail in Quilcene, but I wanted to take the kids with me and that just wasn't the trail for them (10 miles/slippery/steep). Instead, I chose to take them to Theler Wetlands. I read about it in my urban trails guide, but skipped over it because it was on the short side. It was PERFECT for them, and ended up being so beautiful! The wetlands were a bit frozen over, making it a very ethereal walk through protected woods and a reclaimed estuary. I'm so glad we did it. Even Keenan couldn't get over how pretty it was.

I could write more, but I must get some sleep. Ugh...
