Karma Doesn't Forget

Currently kicking myself for waiting so long to write tonight. I'm so sleepy. More so than usual. I had a busy day. But being the creature of habit that I am, I can't skip a day due to something pesky like fatigue. I get to sleep in tomorrow, I can afford to stay up a little later tonight.

Work was a blip on the radar of my day. It went by so fast. The first hour (that would have been our weekly SLM) was instead a long, drawn out conference call about an incident that happened in a store in Alabama. A manager wrongfully accused two black women of shoplifting and the local media had a field day with the story. The company wanted us to be reacquainted with our loss prevention policies and to let it be known that the former manager's behavior isn't going to be tolerated. As a person of color I'm stuck between two thought processes: optimism (good on them, getting behind this before it became a bigger problem) and pessimism (damage control, plain and simple). There is nothing VS sells that I'm willing to confront someone over. Let 'em have it. They will get there's somewhere else down the line. Karma doesn't forget.

I wasn't sure exactly what, but I settled on getting dad something engraved to memorialize his 60th birthday. I swear, I only ever go into Things Remembered in December. Our anniversary or Snookums' birthday. Dad was excited about turning 60, Snookums wasn't excited about turning 40, so I figured he wouldn't be wanting something engraved. Dad on the other hand, would. I settled on a German inspired glass stein with a pewter-looking dip. It's pretty darn cool. I had his name and "commemorating 60 years of excellence" engraved on the metal plate. It turned out great. I was really pleased, and so was he!

Even though Snookums didn't want me to get him anything, I still wanted to find something meaningful for him. As I was walking Tuesday Morning I came across these tiny pillows that were exactly the same shape as a standard. They even had down alternative filling, overstuffed for comfort. I got him one to replace the nasty, flat, old pillow he's been holding onto for years. The only obstacle I encountered was that no one sold pillow cases to fit these adorable little pillows. So, I took it upon myself to crochet him a little pillow sweater. Just something to protect the pillow but also make it look cute. To make a long story short, he loved it! He's sleeping like a baby on it now.

I feel totally guilty about it, but I forgot Keenan had ballet tonight. How could I do that? I've come close before, but not to the point where I just totally space that it's Monday. I'll attribute it to wanting to get everything squared away for my big mens' birthday. Kiki texted me at 5:40pm asking where I was. Oops. And after all the effort I put in getting him back on track after his personal derailment last week. ugh.

Okay, I have to be done. I can barely keep my eyes open! Goodnight!
