Drifting Away In Thought

I can say with 100% certainty that I won't be staying up late tonight. It's barely 10:30pm and I could feel myself starting to nod off (as I laid in bed, drifting away in thought, petting Zephyr - my favorite cat... don't tell the others). What I can't say with 100% certainty is if I'll be going hiking tomorrow. Originally that was my plan, but my body woke up with other ideas.

Even though I can't remember the last time I had a full-blown cold or the flu, I can recall feeling a little rundown, maybe having a scratch throat, or a sneeze/cough for a few days. And I feel like that's what's about to go down. I woke up this morning with a considerable amount of post nasal drip. Enough to give me a bit of a sore throat. That's my main complaint, until around 2pm I started to feel a bit foggy. I didn't get much sleep last night, so that could most definitely be a part of it, but honestly I'm not feeling the greatest. I'm not sick *knock on ALL THE WOOD*, but I think my body is fighting something.

After work I went to the gym to get in the rest of my steps (which took all of 30 minutes), then I did my usual full body circuit, but at a reduced weight. I'm feeling super sore through my glutes, hamstrings, and quads. I'm guessing a combination of hiking and me getting back into lifting weights. I'm not complaining. Soreness means progress, and I'm doing so well lately, I just want to keep moving forward.

As I was leaving the gym, I could definitely feel what little energy I had left, evacuating my body. I needed to refuel and rehydrate. So, I stopped at Central Market to pick up some produce to make a veggie soup. I had a craving for green veggies, so I bought cabbage, kale, okra, celery, scallions, and chives to make a simple, brothy (but flavorful)soup. It took no time to whip up and man did it hit the spot. I wasn't expecting the kids to like it, but they though it was great too! I treated myself and got a loaf of my favorite bread, Macrina Bakery's rustic potato loaf. Hands down the best loaf of bread I've ever had, and the perfect accompaniment to my soup. Such a good dinner.

For dessert tonight I splurged and got myself a couple mangoes. They're out of season, so twice the price (if not three times depending on variety) of summer mangoes. These ones are Tommy Atkins mangoes and while I like the flavor, they're a much more fibrous fruit than my favorite (Ataulfo). But beggars can't be choosers. Not to mention my body could use all the vitamin c it can get. I think I'm going to go eat said mangoes now, so I can go to bed. I refuse to get sick! I will not allow it!
