How The Time Flies...

It was hard getting out of bed again today. It's frustrating that on the days when I don't have to be anywhere. When I have the whole day to myself, my stupid depression chains me down. The thing that finally got me going was the desire to find Keenan appropriate pants for ballet. If I can't do something for myself, my kids are a great motivator.

I tried Big 5 Sporting Goods, Ross, a few different stores in the mall, and no one had dance apparel for boys. I ended up going back to Target. I figured if I couldn't find him pants I could at least get him some white t-shirts so his black basketball shorts with the lime green stripe down the side would be toned down a little. I can't remember exactly when the last time I was in the kids' section of Target was (I think back to school shopping was it), but they'd completely restocked and added thermals and more activewear. Not really more dancewear (they still just had the little girls basic ballet attire, and some jazz leotards. I found some boys thermals that kind of looked like tights, except they had a bunch of grey writing along the waistband. I ended up venturing over to the girls section and found performance leggings and pants that were solid black, opaque, and not embellished in any way. They're PERFECT! And only $14.99, instead of the $35 for boys ballet tights I found online. He looks adorable in them. They fit amazingly, and they aren't girly in any way. They just look like tight fitting dance pants. Like Patrick Swayze wore in Dirty Dancing. Okay, not exactly, but that's what Keenan reminded me of as I watched him in class. With his crisp little white t, tucked into his tight black pants. So damn cute!

Keenan takes ballet so seriously. It's adorable how motivated he is. How intensely he wants to do well. I was starting to worry that maybe we got him into it too late for him to be successful, but I did a little research and turns out 8 is the perfect age to start formal ballet training. Up until then most children don't have the discipline and their bones aren't hardened enough for the rigorous training. So, he's actually coming into it at the perfect age. Some sources even said kids could start at 10 or 12 and still have a great career (if they choose). I feel better about putting it off, I guess. Keenan did ask for lessons last year.

This evening Kiki and I took a nice long walk together. All the way down Lofall (our street) and back. It ended up being 4 miles total. Not bad. It reminded me that I don't often get to spend much one on one time with my kids. I think I needed to make that a priority. Especially with Annie leaving for college in less than a year. I can't believe I'm even writing that. She can't be that old! But she is... how the time flies.
