My Life Thus Far
Jamaican Black Castor Oil
My sense of well-being is very high right now. Which is lovely. I relish moments like this when I feel safe, comfortable, cared for, and peaceful. Seems to happen so rarely these days. But I know that will eventually change.
Work was excruciatingly boring. Monday I sold $700/hr. Today I sold $700 all day, and I worked longer! It was soooooooo sloooooow. I kept myself occupied recovering panty drawers and filling walls, but I was hardly stimulating work. 5:30pm couldn't come soon enough.
The past few weeks my self-care habits have been rather poor. I haven't been wearing makeup (which isn't terrible, but it's almost exclusively because I'm not giving myself time to do it, even when I kind of feel like I want to do something with my face), I barely take the time to shower (I go days. I'll clean up, but I have little energy to go through a whole shower routine), and I haven't been taking proper care of my hair. Both my skin and hair were so dry and thirsty. I caught a glimpse of myself in the bathroom mirror at work and my hair looked like straw. I spritzed a little refreshing mist (mini DevaCurl products live in my purse) and threw the straw mess up in a bun. That's when I decided I needed to invest some time in caring for myself.
I stopped at Ulta on the way home and bought a bottle of Jamaican black castor oil and a couple packs of Shea Moisture JBCO hair masques. I've heard good things, and they're only $2.99. I bought two because my hair is long, and I'm glad I did. I used it all up... Oh. My. Goodness! My hair hasn't been this happy in a long time! I sectioned my hair into 4 equal quadrants, massaged the mask in with a few additional pumps of black castor oil, pinned the quadrants up into bantu knots, then applied a cap and headed things up with my blow dryer. Then I spent the evening hanging out with the kids while my hair soaked it all up.
I didn't want to, but I needed to shower. Not to mention my skin needed the moisture. So, I rinsed out the hair masque, lathered up with healing clay soap, then massaged a mixture of coconut oil and rose hip seed oil into my skin. I feel great. My scalp isn't itching and I feel soft. I'd say it's been a good evening.
