My Life Thus Far
I Took My Time
It's been a deliberately slow day. I think I mentioned last night (maybe I didn't) that I unexpectedly got today off. Christine had split the two groups of new hires that needed to be onboarded into two groups, but everyone ended up opting for yesterday's class or had other obligations today. So, I got an extra day off. I'm not upset about it. Even when work is going well, I'd still rather not be there.
I woke up slow. I moved through my tasks slowly. I took my time with everything, because that's what felt right. The most stressful moment of my day was witnessing an asshole in a Mercedes go the wrong direction in a roundabout because he wanted to get in front of me. I think I spent 20 minutes hypothesizing how much of a prick he must be in his day to day life to feel that doing such a thing was acceptable or appropriate. Then I had to let it go, because all my efforts of remaining zen were flying out the window the more energy I gave to him. He's still a prick though. I'm sure of it.
My only real accomplishment today was going to Costco and restocking the pantry with the kids' lunch stuff. Juice boxes, applesauce pouches, fruit cups, snack crackers, etc. Kid food. Organic, vegan, gluten free kid food, but still kid food nonetheless. I didn't bring them with me for that, either. Not only would they not want to come, if they did it's an instant $100 added to the bill. So, they stayed home. Kiki napped and Keenan read books. I'm blessed with easy children.
After the Costco haul was safely deposited in the pantry, we went to Battle Point to enjoy what was left of our last 80 degree day. I can't say for sure it's going to be our last 80 degree day, but the 15 day forecast has one rain squall after another coming and going through mid September. I can't imagine we'll rebound that late in the game. Though stranger things have happened... like 90 degree weather in February.
I'm starving. I'm waiting for Snookums to get home from work so we can eat together. He should be here in about half an hour or so. I'm making Boca chik'n burgers on crustini buns, salad and roasted Dutch yellow fingerling potatoes. Nothing too fancy ;)
