I Could Surprise Myself

I accomplished what I've been wanting to do for weeks! I got my car washed, and I revamped my bumper sticker collection. I don't know how I cam to the conclusion that I was going to cover my new car in stickers, but the collection has expanded. Especially since our trip to Herbivore Clothing Company last week. I picked up 10 more there. Snookums counted 22 on Fiona as of now. I know I have one more from Voodoo Doughnut floating around here somewhere that I want to add (it says "the magic is in the hole"). I feel like I've got a few more somewhere around here. I just need to find them. It's going to drive me crazy until I do.

It had been two weeks since I'd seen Keenan dance. Last week we went to Portland and the week before that Daddy took him so I could go hiking. I was looking forward to seeing him point his little toes in his adorable ballet shoes, and stand at the barre with such perfect posture. He told me that during break that he loves ballet and wants to do it forever. That warmed my heart, because as much as I love watching him do it, if he didn't love it, I'd have to take him out of it. I would never force him to do it if his heart truly wasn't in it. But I think it is. He takes it so seriously. He even got on Dad for making him 3 minutes late a few weeks ago!

After dance, we went to Battle Point so the kids could play, and I could walk. I managed to get a fair amount of steps in over the course of the day, but I needed more. Towards the end of our lap along the walking trail, I noticed a tree I've passed a thousand times had big, beautiful green apples with a rosy blush to them. We've been coming to this park for years, and I've never seen apples like this on it. Maybe it's mature and is deciding to fruit. Maybe it got pollinated. I have no idea how this works. I just know it had apples on it! So, I was brave and picked on. Took a bite... and was rewarded with such a sweet, juicy apple! Snookums and I picked a dozen of them. When we got back to the car, I gave one to each of the children, and they loved them too. So, we grabbed one of my Chico bags and went back to the tree to collect more. We took 44 of them. They added up fast, but I know we'll eat them. So, this evening's entertainment was apple picking. In the middle of summer. Strange, but I'm not complaining! Next time I have to remember to bring a container for blackberries. Those are coming into season, too.

Today Snookums surprised me with something he's never bought me before. A new pair of running shoes. Last night I mentioned that my Saucony Jazz hurt my feet when I try to run in them. I have high arches, and the Jazz just doesn't have good enough support. Or maybe it's their age. They are almost 2 years old. Even if they look good, that's still awhile to be working out in the same shoes. So, today when I came home from the car wash, there was a Saucony box sitting on the counter. He'd gotten me a legit pair of running shoes. One of the best pair Saucony has to offer, and they're vegan. My only complaint is that he got them in the same color scheme as my previous pair. Grey and mint green. Which I only got in the Jazz because that was the only color available in my size. I'm sure he figured I liked it, so he played it safe and got the same color... I don't like the color, or maybe I'm just tired of it. I didn't tell him that, though. I don't want to discourage him after he tried to do something nice for me. I'm almost inspired to get up early before work tomorrow and go for a run to the end of Lofall and back... but odds are good I won't. I lack the discipline and self-motivation for that. But who knows, I could surprise myself.
