The Yin And Yang Of Life

It was such a fun day! Our plan to take the babies to the beach went off without a hitch. Nothing went wrong. Not once, the entire day. I'd say that's cause for celebration. So often when good things happens I slightly hold my breath expecting something bad to happen. Perhaps the yin and yang of life. There must be bad to temper the good, and vise versa. Today was all wonderful, and I'm thankful for it.

We didn't get going as early as we'd wanted. Our plan was to get up early and leave by 10am to get a good spot on the beach, but that's tough to do when you don't go to bed until well after 2am. I don't think Snookums has been sleeping well, either. He didn't get up until almost 11am. Even with the later start, we still got a perfect spot. On a lovely bed of some kind of succulent water plant, I spread out our blankets. I watched the kids swim and splash, while daddy alternated giving piggy back rides. It was great.

Washington waters can't compare to Hawaii, of course. But the waters at Belfair State Park are some of the warmest Washington waters I've experienced. After a couple hours sitting in the sun, I felt brave enough to get in. Close to the shore, there were lovely shallow pockets of warm water. Almost bath water warm. The further into Hood Canal you go, the more tidal flats, estuaries, and wet lands you get. Belfair is where Hood Canal begins, so it's warmer than Puget Sound or Hood Canal further north. It was perfect.

Snookums offered to take Keenan to ballet so I could go hiking. I wanted to go hiking, but I felt really terrible about missing Keenan's ballet class. Keenan himself even told me I didn't have to go (because he liked the idea of not having to go hiking with me after ballet class). He said I've already seen all his dance moves, anyway. So, I did it. I went hiking. But all I could think about was what I was missing out on. I love watching him dance.

I got to discover two new trails at my favorite park (North Kitsap Heritage). The left fork of Forked Tongue trail and White Horse trail. It was a pretty ordinary hike, but when it comes to being out in nature ordinary is always extraordinary.
