My Sister's Keeper Jodi Picoult. Updated.

I find it immovably interesting that a story steeped in feeling helps me move my pain and heal.
From character to plot style and everything in between a hit this book. Ordeal writing at it's best and finest.

Only ever read her once before : Tenth Circle". I loved the graphic cartoon interspersed in it more than the novel itself.

My Sister's Keeper.

" 'You need to know that kids beat the odds. Every single day.' " (Doctor) p.32.

"There is a moment during a structure fire when you know you are either going to get the upper hand, or that it's going to get the upper hand on you. You notice the ceiling patch about to fall and the staircase eating itself alive and the synthetic carpet glued to the soles of your boots.
The sum of the parts overwhelms, and that's when you back out and force yourself to remember that every fire will burn itself out, even without your help.
These days I'm fighting fire on six sides. " (Brian) p.141.

(Italics unavailable on this phone : the following is italicized in the novel.)

"A jewel is just a rock put under enormous heat and pressure. Extraordinary things are always hiding in places people never think to look." (Julia) p.149.

"The human capacity for burden is like bamboo - far more flexible than you'd ever believe at first glance." (Brian) p.192.

"Fire and hope are connected, just so you know. ...
Pandora s curiosity got the best of her, and one day she opened that box. Out came plagues and misery and mischief. She managed to shut the lid tight before hope escaped. It's the only weapon we have left to fight the others." (Brian) p.217.

"I walk in to find Brian's big hands fumbling a Lilliputian clasp on the back of a necklace, as he hangs a locket around Anna's neck. 'I thought you deserved your own gift, since you were giving one to your sister, ' he says.
Of course Anna should be honoured for donating her bone marrow. Of course she deserves recognition. But the thought of rewarding someone for their suffering, frankly, never entered my mind. We've all been doing it for so long." (Sara) p.230-231.

""..., there are basic donor rights, safeguards put in place...so that the greater good doesn't steamroll the pioneers who created it." (? Unsure) p.296.

""The answer is that there is no good answer. So as parents, as doctors, as judges, and as a society, we fumble through and make decisions that allow us to sleep at night - because morals are more important than ethics, and love is more important than law." (Campbell) p.393.

Quote about connection and loss :

"EPILOGUE.
'When along the pavement,
Palpitating flames of life,
People flicker around me,
I forgot my bereavement,
The gap in the great constellation,
The place where a star used to be."

D.H.Lawrence, 'Submergence.'

I've quoted my peace and live with a little less emotional pain. Emotional injuries can be a life-long disease and I pray for remission. ....one day.
