My Life Thus Far

More On Experiences, Less On Things

The more I think about it, the more implausible it is. Keenan is 8 years old. It seems like only a few years ago he was born. Throughout the day I've thought back to milestones of his life, and all the changes he's made. Over the past few months he's become much more mature. More masculine. So much like his dad, but with my bad attitude (but only when he's hungry or tired... so much like me).

Due to food allergies in his class, Keenan couldn't have cupcakes brought to his class. The first year his birthday fell on a school day, and I couldn't do for him what I've always done for Annie and Kiki. To make up for it, I brought him a couple birthday cake pops at lunch. He was so surprised to see me in the cafeteria! I love doing little things like that for my babies. There's nothing better than putting a smile on their faces.

Keenan wanted to open presents as soon as he got home from school, and he enjoyed every minute of it. I put a lot of thought into what I got him... and his sisters. I think I mentioned before I want to focus more on experiences, less on things. He still got some things, but I kept it to stuff that was useful or that I knew would enrich his life in some way. I feel successful.

One of the things Keenan wanted to do was go bowling. Not to toot my own horn, but I bowled my best game ever tonight! 6 strikes and 3 spares in one game. I'm seriously considering joining a league. The only thing stopping me is how sore my wrist is after a couple games. I had surgery on my right wrist (to have a cyst removed) 6 years ago, and it still gets sore once in awhile. Maybe if I used it more, that would go away.

I'm off tomorrow, but the day will be spent getting the house clean. My in laws are coming, and I'm really not looking forward to it. There's so much to do to get the house looking really nice. My dad wasn't nearly as particular as they are. Could be because they're wealthy. I don't know. I just know it's been 7 years since they came to visit, and I'm nervous about how it's going to go. Thank goodness for work in this regard. I won't have to endure too many awkward moments.

Both Target and Central Market have been sold out of my favorite Ben and Jerry's PB and Cookies ice cream, but it's back in stock now, and I've got a pint waiting for me. I'll enjoy my evening before I have to work my ass off tomorrow. Ugh.
