My Life Thus Far
Chase The Sun
I am ridiculously tired, and yet (as is my custom) I've waited until after midnight to write. I should be asleep, but that would make too much sense. Especially since I got up early this morning, and will be getting up early tomorrow, too. If you couldn't tell... I hate waking up early. Night owls like to stay up late and sleep in late. That's how my DNA is coded, and quite frankly I'm sick of society demanding functionality in the AM hours. Alright, mini rant over.
I went into work mentally prepared to work open to close. I was ready to put my entire focus on the task (or tasks) at hand, and I wasn't going to think about how gorgeous I knew the weather was outside (it was already 75 degrees when I got to work a little before 10am). Summer is my season. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the heat and sun. It's my favorite. I should have been a teacher so I could have summers off with the kids! I know it doesn't exactly work that way, but in my perfect universe it would.
So work was good. Even better than expected because I got to get off 3.5 hours early because it was so dead (and so many associates were scheduled)! I knew Snookums was cleaning, and since I really wanted no parts of that, I stopped at Forever 21 to look at dresses. I found a super cute batik style sheath dress with spaghetti straps for $10. It looks so cute on! It's a little big, but I'd rather it be loose and flowy than tight and clingy.
Even though it was getting late in the day by the time Snookums was done with everything, we still tried to chase the sun, and recreate our beach experience yesterday in a more deliberate fashion. We assembled a picnic dinner and headed out to Point No Point beach. My only complain with Point No Point is that it's ALWAYS cold to me there. No matter how hot the rest of the world is, or how many times I give the place the benefit of the doubt, it's always 15 degrees cooler, with a wicked gale force wind blowing. I don't even see how people get stripped down to bathing suits and go into the water. I had to wrap myself in a blanket to not feel frigid, even though Fiona's thermometer said it was 76 degrees. It didn't feel remotely close to that. Needless to say, I was disappointed. I wrapped myself in a blanket and walked the beach. That was nice enough. Despite the cold water lapping at my feet, because it was high tide. It wasn't as good as yesterday. Our goal is to recreate the perfect beach day tomorrow.
Since Annie is in Cheney with Snookums' mother for a few days (visiting Eastern Washington University), and Kiki is going to Nature Bridge tomorrow (on a class camping trip), Keenan is all alone with us. So, we thought it would be fun to do something special with just him since he's kind of left out. Unfortunately (I totally though it was another day) he also has a class field trip tomorrow. I felt bad when he mentioned it, because I didn't want to put him in a position where he had to choose between hanging with his friends on a field trip, or going somewhere with mom and dad. The pressure to find a really cool outing is on. So far, we're leaning towards Salt Creek Recreation Area, because it's got a little of everything. Sandy beaches, hiking trails, tide pools, and great views. Hopefully it's not disappointingly cold like Point No Point. I'm longing for some sunshine and warmth on my skin!
I need to be heading to bed. It's going to be an early morning again tomorrow, and an even earlier one on Tuesday, but that's another story.
