My Life Thus Far

It Was Good For My Soul

It would seem, in the over 13 years Snookums and I have been together (12 of them married), all major arguments/fights/standoffs/silent treatments/what-have-you, must come to an end with sex. It's kind of our thing. Along with millions of other couples, I'm sure. Long story short: I got no sleep last night. We stayed up too late, I tried to sleep in a slippery satin night gown (when I usually sleep in a cotton night gown with leggings or pants under it). I just wasn't comfortable, and I had to open, so there was no sleeping in. I got maybe 3 hours. It was fine, though. I had a short shift, and I got to spend the rest of the day in the sun!

I find when I allow myself to be fully present in whatever I'm doing (in this case, work) I feel less irritated, and the time goes by faster. Even if it's something I find generally unpleasant. When I woke up this morning, I wasn't entirely sure how I was going to get through the day with so little sleep, but I gave myself a pep talk and reminded myself that I only had to make it to 1:30pm today. Piece of cake! I just had to focus on helping customers, doing my job, and not watching the clock. Which backfired slightly, because I worked until 2pm before realizing that no one had come to relieve me! At least it worked out in my favor. I had some really good sales today.

Snookums, Kiki, and Keenan were ready to go when I got home. I made myself a smoothie, changed my shoes, and threw my hair up in a bun and we were out the door. Originally our plan was to go to Fort Townsend, but the tide was so far in when we got there (even though the tide table said it was low tide until well after 5pm, and it was only a little after 3pm when we got there), there was no beach for us to walk on. Keenan was very disappointed, so we headed to the next closes park we knew had a good beach for them to play on. Fort Worden.

We weren't disappointed! It was so sunny, so warm, so blue (sky and water). If I closed my eyes, the crashing waves and beating sun reminded me of being back on Oahu. It was good for my soul, for sure. Fort Worden is almost always 10 degrees cooler than anywhere inland. I was expecting no less today. I'm glad to be proven wrong. I laid in the sand and soaked up the sun while Kiki and Keenan played in the waves. Daddy watched. It's funny how 3 hours in the Hawaiian sun and I'm burned to a crisp. I spend a good 6 hours in the sun today and I don't even look like I got a teeny tan. Maybe there will be something there tomorrow. I'm not afraid of a little sun exposure. I trust the sun way more than I trust chemical sun blocks, but that's a different discussion.

We had dinner at a little Chinese restaurant that always seems to be closed whenever we've wanted to try it in the past. Golden Ocean. I had fried spring rolls (rice paper wrappers filled with shredded cabbage. Pretty dang good for how simple they were), Buddhist Delight (a gorgeous plate of mostly green veggies - broccoli, snow peas, celery, cabbage, bok choy and a little bit of bamboo shoots, water chestnuts and carrots) in a delicate garlic sauce over steamed rice. It all was very good. I wouldn't mind eating there again. Not to mention the interior of the restaurant was much nicer, with a better ambiance than what the exterior let on.

All in all, it was a great day. I work open to close tomorrow, so I'm going to do my best to get a decent night's sleep tonight. I plan on throwing myself all the way into it, like I did today. It really does help the time go by faster.
