London's Baptism

I tell ya, it had been a long time since I'd felt that happy. I was so at peace and happy that I gave Hyrum a hug! Hyrum is this really nice but incredibly stupid guy Mary dated for a while. Of course, Mary introduced him to London and London became friends with his son. So that's why they were there.
Anyway, it was great to see how happy London was to be getting baptized. Earlier that day she asked me what the best day of my life was. I had a hard time picking one. I can remember periods of time but a lot would have to happen in one day for me to remember it as THE BEST DAY of my life. I told her that the day I got married was a really great day and that the day she was born was also up there. Then she said, "Today is the best day of my life because I'm getting baptized."
That was remarkable because she's had a pretty sweet life. I even took her to Disneyland last year. So for her to say that the best day of her life was the day that she got baptized is really something.
So like I said, I was very happy. London was really sweet and all smiles. Getting in the font with her was awesome. The water was really warm. We stood there for a moment while Gene made his way to a seat. Then I said the prayer and baptized her and gave her a big hug.
The confirmation was pretty cool too. My dad blessed her to have good feelings about herself. It's a strange thing to say but to me it meant that with the help of the Holy Ghost she would feel and know her worth. That's huge. It's so important for a girl to have that. He blessed her with a lot of other great things typical of confirmations but that was the one thing that stood out to me.
I really want london to grow up being confident and happy with who she is. I worry that by being critical of her I'm going to ruin that. I think about that a lot. But she's so frustrating sometimes. haha
Anyway, it was my dad, Bishop Van Slyke, Gene, and myself in the circle.
And the cherry on top is that Mary DIDN'T bring Richard. I probably would have been fine because I was so happy and filled with the Spirit but it was nice that it wasn't a distraction and even better that she took my feelings into consideration. She gave me a huge hug - an uncomfortably long hug - at the end. She thanked me for being a great dad and for getting myself ready to do the baptism. It was nice to hear that.
So a pretty great day, indeed.
It's probably time to get serious about reading the scriptures with her and praying together and doing FHE.
