It’s 5 o’clock in the morning and so nice to be able to access the Internet without the necessity of going out to get on line! I think that if I’m able to shave a little more expense, I might weaken and buy into one of these direct services. Xfinity is way too expensive and most of the others require a landline, which I don’t have and don’t want! I have to figure a way around the rent increases Mark proposes and it will probably hinge on the humongous heating bills I can expect this winter. I’ll just not be able to hack it without some alternate plan!
I made coffee in Joan’s old Kuerig coffee maker, which does one cup at a time! I should have used the Mr. Coffee that was on the counter, but didn’t. You can bet I will tomorrow morning!
Jim’s still sleeping, which is a good thing, so I’ll just mess around on line until I hear him stirring around. It should be a while before that happens, but I need to make another cup of coffee right now! Jim has more Doctor appointments today at 1 with the cardiologist to check his pacemaker and at 3 with his primary care guy to rethink his worsening condition and reformulate a more effective care program discuss the reports of all the specialists he’s consulted.
I heard Jim stirring around and went up to see what I could do for him. Everything seemed to be all right and he was thinking about what to have for breakfast. We settled on Oatmeal with raisins and brown sugar, always a favorite of mine and so easy to make. We did that and cleaned up the kitchen, then putzed around until 12:15, when it was time to leave for the Cardiologist appointment! I dropped him at the door and found a spot to park. As Jim has a Handicapped license, it wasn’t difficult to find a space near the entrance.
They took him in shortly after 1 and took less than a half hour with him. He seemed to be in deep thought and distraught when he came out. He was told that he was “Afibb” whatever the full implications of that condition is and that it appears that he had been since early June! Something else to talk over with his primary care guy! As it was only about 1:30, he wanted to see if he could arrange a haircut at a shop called “Jude’s Barbershop”. He had a regular gal named Brittany, so I went in to see if I could make arrangements with her. She was able to take him in 30 minutes, so we were left with a time slot to fill. We went to a grocery store to buy a few things and I went in with the short list he had made up to get it done. It’s always a mystery as to how a new store is laid out, so I asked some questions and found all the things on the list and was out in a little more than twenty minutes. By the time we got back to Judes, Brittany was ready for him. He thought it necessary to forewarn me that she was a very nice, but “strange” girl, with tattoos and a nose ring, as though that would make some difference to me! Brittany was a lady of substance, but very “hip” and very pleasant! The only thing that truly amazes me was how she managed to stuff herself into her stylish jeans and boots. The jeans look like they were painted on! She did a competent job on his hair and was skilled with the razor, so I guess that’s the only thing that really mattered!
We left there for the Doctor’s office and got there shortly before three. There was more paperwork to fill out, so I left Jim to do that while I went to the john. Jim again felt a need to forewarn me that his doctor was black, but I assured him that I had no Klan affiliations, so I wasn’t uncomfortable with that fact!
We spent some time there and this time I was in the room, so I could see and hear what was going on and ask a few questions myself. A MA, who didn’t have a nametag, rewrapped Jim’s legs while the Doc reassessed his medications and doubled up on them, then talked about finding the right mask of some sort to help process the oxygen he takes in and thus help his breathing. He seemed to think that would make a substantial difference in Jim’s stamina. I didn’t understand the significance of the mask, so I just left it alone. I figured it would be clarified for me later. On the way home, Jim pointed out a Pizzeria (Morello’s) that was a favorite of Joan’s and I had an inkling of where I would be picking up dinner
We then went home to think about dinner and decided on pizza, which neither of us had had in a long time. He buys, I do the running.
Just as I got back with the goodies, David came over to check on the day’s happenings. He and Jim watched the World Series game and I went downstairs to read until bedtime. Dave forgot he wore a jacket and came down desperately looking for his car keys and Jim pointed out the jacket----which of course had the keys in the pocket. I said goodbye to David and went back downstairs to settle in for the night!
A busy day!
