My Life Thus Far

What Drives Me

It's not even 11pm, and I'm exhausted. For some reason I didn't sleep well last night. I kept waking up, like I was worried about oversleeping and being late to work, but I knew my alarm was set. I even checked it multiple times. It just wasn't a restful night. The fatigue didn't hit me until the very end of my shift, so that was good. It was a quick day, and for that I'm grateful for.

I totally didn't realize I was facilitating a bra certification class today! I knew it was coming up, because Sara told me it was, but I couldn't recall which day and it wasn't obvious by looking at my schedule. I walked into work at 10am and Lauren said "there's a big group waiting for you in back". Oh crap! That's today! Luckily I can teach bra certification in my sleep. Which is kind of what it felt like at first, since I didn't sleep so well.

The group was actually pretty great. Attentive, curious, engaged. They asked lots of great questions and genuinely seemed to be paying attention to what I was saying. Usually bra certification class happens around an associate's 90 day mark, so a lot of the information isn't new, since they've been working on the floor for months. To a new hire, it's all fresh info. They were eager to learn. It made the class that much more engaging to teach.

After the class was over, I had just about three hours on the sales floor before I was off. It had been busy the whole time I was teaching the class, but of course as soon as I come out on the floor to sell, customers vanished. I did okay, despite there being little traffic. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get to be in training hours while I'm doing the new hire's certification observations. I can't focus on selling and teaching.

As I was leaving work Paige mentioned something about me being recognized as an Angel of Excellence (VS's recognition program). She didn't elaborate, and didn't feel like sticking around to read the email, but tomorrow I will. It's always nice to know that the hard work I put in is noticed, even if ultimately that isn't what drives me.

After work I stopped into World Market to look around. I rarely go into that store (because even though it's attached to the mall, it doesn't have a mall door. You have to drive around and park in it's lot. Weird). Anyhow, I ended up finding a really pretty necklace, matching bracelets, hedgehog dryer balls (they fluff the clothes so they dry faster), sriracha cashews, a dark chocolate sea salt bar, and cinnamon sugar pumpkin seeds. Just a bunch of random stuff. And then I went to Target and bought some new plates and bowls to photograph my food in. I'm getting quite the collection.
