My Life Thus Far

Day Drinking

It's by the grace of all things good that I'm even awake and coherent right now! I've had quite a day, but it was good. So much fun, so far removed from my normal life, so NOT going to happen very often, and probably not again anytime soon. It kind of awakened some old feelings/habits from a time in my life I'd rather leave in the past.

Since I had the day off, and Selena will be leaving Washington soon (Sunday), we decided to have another day on the town together (plus Nate, since it was so fun having him last time). I was up by 6am, out the door by 7:30am so we could catch an early ferry. We had breakfast at Fraise Cup (a little coffee shop by the ferry), and then caught the ferry over. Once there, we took a cab up to Westlake Shopping Center and spent a couple hours looking at shoes and dresses (the dresses for some military ball Selena is going to. Shoes for the sake of shoes, and also for the ball). We had lunch at The Cheesecake Factory, which was very lackluster for me. The only thing on the menu for me was a vegan cobb salad, which was nothing like an actual cobb salad. It was basically a bunch of cold vegetables over a bed of lettuce. I had a Pina Colada with it, and that was enjoyable.

Once we left Westlake Center, we headed back down towards the waterfront and went to the market. Selena and I both got flowers, then we all stopped at Kell's Irish Pub for another drink. This time I had a shot of tequila with salt and lime. After leaving the pub, we walked on the pier, along the waterfront and eventually made our way into the Fisherman's Wharf for yet another drink. I again had a shot of tequila with salt and lime. Then we went on The Great Wheel.

You can image by this point I was feeling pretty good. I definitely like day drinking more than night drinking, but like I mentioned before, I won't be doing this very often or again soon. Once the alcohol wears off I really don't like the way I feel. By the time we finally came back across the water, I had a slight headache, my stomach was a little upset (I didn't eat enough of my boring salad for all of that alcohol), and I felt super cranky. Selena and Nate were still buzzed, but I had to stop drinking because I was driving. That part was no fun, but it was necessary.

After dropping Selena and Nate off in Port Orchard, I stopped at Trader Joe's and grabbed some stuff for dinner. Then I came home and cooked for the kids and I. They had a great day at school, and it made me feel so good hearing them gush about it. Despite my alcohol soaked day of adventure, it was still more enjoyable standing in the kitchen chatting with my kids, and that's what I want to do every day. Keenan thinks his new teacher is very nice, and he's made a new friend. Kiki is happy she got the same teacher she had last year, and all of 4th grade classmates are back in the same class with her (she's in a special 4th/5th split, and her teacher requested all of the 4th graders from last year back for 5th, and she succeeded).

Now I'm going to sleep. I have to work tomorrow, but thankfully not until 1pm. I'm going to get so much sleep tonight. I'm excited about it.
