My Life Thus Far

That Kind of Serendipity

I'm sad that my days off are over. It always goes so fast. I'm also not super stoked that I'm heading into a 6 day work stretch, which is starting with a DM visit. My only hope is that she's gone by the time I get there, but I'm not holding my breath. That kind of serendipity doesn't usually happen for me.

I definitely felt like I was in kind of a low place today. Not full on depression, but the desire to stay in bed was very strong. I almost succumbed, but Thursday is farmer's market day, and I love going to the farmer's market with Kiki and Keenan. It's become our weekly tradition.

The farmer's market doesn't start until 4pm, so I spent most of the day laying in bed watching documentaries about the Roman Empire on the History Channel. I would have preferred a Criminal Minds marathon, but I've been having a tough time finding my favorite show. It never seems to be on, or if it is, it's on a channel we don't get. Anyhow, it didn't kill me to learn (or relearn) something. I don't think I've ever delved so deeply into Roman history. It actually sounded like a place I wouldn't have minded living back in that time period. Hedonistic as it was. I did come to one conclusion at the end of my third documentary: All great societies eventually commit suicide. The Roman Empire crippled itself and eventually contributed to it's own demise. The United States is well on it's way to doing the same thing. You can't deny the similarities. I'm not a doomsday conspirator by any means, but I think the US could stand to learn a little something from the past. Otherwise history will repeat itself.

My favorite little farm was at the market. Patchwork Gardens. The kids helped me pick out carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, and long beans. I thought about getting some scallions too, but they were at least 2ft tall. I don't have much of a use for such giant scallions, but they were cool to see. Every time I buy from them, it makes me want my own garden so bad! I want to grow food and sell it at the farmer's market. I think this should be a long term goal of mine. Someday I will have the time and freedom to grow my own produce. Maybe bake some gluten free/vegan goodies, too. Make some natural body care items... I want my own little shop! Someday.
