My Life Thus Far
Whatever Small Comfort or Luxury
I made it to my "weekend". My accidental weekend, because I rarely get two days off in a row like this. Unless I request it. Which is usually fine, since work isn't as stressful as I once was. I'm grateful for whatever small comfort or luxury afforded me, though. Everyone deserves time off.
I worked with the new sup again today. Even though my inner bitch really wanted to give her the cold shoulder, I didn't. Giving her a hard time serves no one, and does my character no favors. She'll come around, I'll come around, we'll both come to an understanding. I did hear her tell another associate that the store she came from was pretty uptight, and everyone was micromanaged in every regard. That's tough, and explains why she does what she does.
I went to Central after work to get some ingredients for a real, whole foods meal. Since the kids have been gone, I haven't felt a great desire to cook. Usually I cook not only to feed myself, but them. And also to have leftovers for them in the fridge, and for my work lunches. With them gone, the motivation or need for the extra food isn't there. But I've been eating a lot of convenience stuff. So, I needed a real meal. I already knew I wanted mashed potatoes, and settled on sautéed mixed veggies to go with. I bought one of those pre-cut packages of fresh veg in the fridge case to save time (it had broccoli, snap peas, asparagus, red and yellow peppers). I added a small Walla Walla sweet onion, a tiny head of orange cauliflower, and a package of Bunashimeiji (aka Brown Beech) mushrooms to the mix. I sautéed it up in my wok with a couple tablespoons of coconut oil, and tossed in about half a cup of cubed green heirloom tomato right at the end. It really hit the spot. So good! I had enough left to set aside two more meals. Perhaps lunch or dinner tomorrow. I was also thinking of saving them for work lunches Friday and Saturday. We shall see.
I guess I'll head off to bed now. I get to turn off the alarm and sleep in tomorrow! It's going to be so very lovely...
