Gorgeous Scenery and Boring Wilderness

Perhaps getting up at 6am to go hiking was exactly what I needed to get my sleep schedule back on track, because it's 10pm and I'm so ready to go to sleep. It was a great day, though. From start to finish, it was a great way to end my little staycation.

Snookums and I left the house a little after 7am, which is excellent for us. Usually we get a very late start and miss out on half of the day. Not today. I really wanted to go, and since it's a 4.5 hour drive (one way) there was no messing around! Our plan was to stop for breakfast first, then head on to Neah Bay.

Our first stop was First Street Haven in Port Angeles. We discovered First Street Haven when we lived in Port Angeles. It's a tiny little hole in the wall diner on the main drag. It's a tight space, and gets pretty packed on the weekends, but since we came early it wasn't too bad. They serve an amazing breakfast and brunch using lots of fresh local ingredients. They have a fair selection of gluten free/vegan. I had the veggie browns, which are local veggies sautéed and served over crispy hashbrowns. My only complaint was that I wished the portion was bigger! It was so good!

We also visited Country Aire (to buy me some fruit and granola to take with us), and Swain's (to get Snookums a pair of sandals like the ones I got there a couple days ago), and then we made our way out of town. The drive out to Neah Bay is interspersed with gorgeous scenery and boring wilderness. We stopped at various scenic spots in Clallam Bay, Seiku, and Neah Bay before arriving at the Cape Flattery trailhead. Of course, by the time we got there it had started to torrentially downpour. I wish it had been sunny, but we were determined not to let the weather ruin our good mood.

The hike to the outlook point was short and fairly easy. It was only 1.5 miles round trip. I got some really great pictures, even though there wasn't the best visibility. It's such a pretty place. I want to go back with the kids. I really think they'd like it, too.

On the way home, we stopped in Port Angeles again and had dinner at Sabai Thai. I ordered a similar dish to the one I had at Khu Larb Thai in Port Townsend on Thursday. I wasn't the least bit surprised, but Sabai Thai's was hands down better! It was a veggie dish with cashews and tofu. So good, I wanted to lick the bowl.

I think that's all I want to say about today... so sleepy... Snookums is already asleep. He's got to be to work at 5am. Thankfully, I don't have to work until 11am. I'm going to sleep very well tonight, but I'm a little sad about having to go back to work. These three days have passed too fast.
