My Life Thus Far

Aubergine, Cruella, Damned

The hardest part about the kids being gone, is coming home. It's the worst. All day, I went about work as if it were any ordinary day (because essentially, it was). I thought about the kids (as I usually do), but I can't recall a single instance where I thought about them being gone... until I walked through the front door, and it was just Snookums sitting at the dining room table doing his homework in silence. No thunderous stampede coming from the living room. No small voices asking me "how was work?" It's tough. I got to talk to them tonight, and they're having so much fun! Even Keenan. But it's still hard for me. I'm so selfish, wanting to keep my kids all to myself.

I did a little more retail therapy tonight. The last I'll be doing for awhile, because I'm trying to keep my make up and clothing situation in check (as well as being responsible with money since I can't count on my husband to help in that department). I went to JCPenney's because I had some rewards to use (of course, I bought work clothes). And since I was there, I had to stop in Sephora. Last week I ran out of my favorite lip stick. BITE matte lip crayon in Aubergine. I get tons of compliments when I wear it (it's a rich eggplant color which suits my skin so well). I love the formulation, and it's natural and cruelty free. It stays on all day, and doesn't dry my lips out. I tried making the NARS lip crayon in Cruella my signature color, but I'm pretty sure Aubergine is actually my signature. I also got one of Kat Von D's liquid lipsticks in Damned, mostly because I love that it's matte and super rich - a deep brownish burgundy color. It's tough to explain, but I think I'll like it. I already use Kat Von D's tattoo liner, which is my favorite liquid eyeliner, so I figured I'd give this a try, too. I've never been a huge makeup fan, but I do love my lipsticks.

I stopped at Central tonight to get some food. I decided I wanted to make a batch of soup to eat for lunches and quick dinners for the next week. I planned on doing a simple veggie pasta soup, but it somehow got much more involved than I'd anticipated. It turned out great, though. It was carrots, onion, garlic, corn, peas, patty pan squash, cannellini beans, quinoa pasta, heirloom spinach, and scallions. The pasta and the aquafaba (bean water) from the cannellinis gave the broth such a great mouth feel, and velvety texture. I'm pleased with how it turned out. I have three lunches prepped in the fridge and a container for at home meals/snacks. It's weird not having the kids here to decimate my food. I only had to make half a stock pot full, because I knew I wouldn't be able to eat it all before it went bad.

I'm trying to think of something I feel compelled to write about, but I got nothin'. Snookums brought me a pint of orchard peach sorbet for dessert, so I think I'll go eat some of that. Maybe find some Criminal Minds on tv... Sounds good to me.
