Green Mountain

I can already tell I'm going to be sore tomorrow. Which is unfortunate, because we're going on a family hike near Snoqualmie Pass tomorrow. I'm going to have to dig deep! But it's all good. I need to work on building up my leg and back muscles. No better way to do that than hiking in the beautiful Western Washington wilderness. I haven't been to the gym in forever because all I really want to do is hike and yoga.

Today the little kids and I hiked Green Mountain. I was lulled into thinking it was going to be an easy because it was only 5 miles round trip, but somehow I missed the fact that 2.5 miles of that was going straight up the mountain. I'm a little disappointed by how out of shape I am when it comes to gaining elevation. Something to work towards, I suppose. It was really pretty once we reached the top, and the kids had such a huge sense of pride and accomplishment reaching the vista and making it back down. They told me several times that they love hiking with me, and they always have a great time. This makes me feel so good. I really want to instill in them a love of nature and all of the vast species of wildlife they encounter and learn about. I want them to love going out into the deep woods and being quiet in their own thoughts and feelings. The wilderness is the best place to find yourself. When they have children of their own, I want them to remember the time we spent together hiking, and instill that same love in the next generation. I think It's working.

I just happened to be idly scrolling through Facebook when I saw a post about Annette Lake near Snoqualmie Pass, just outside of North Bend and Issaquah. I shared the post because Annette is Annie's full name, and I just thought it was cool that there's a lake with the same name as my daughter. How did I not know about it until now?! Annie asked if we could do the hike up to see it (7.5 miles total), I said sure, and even Snookums chimed in saying he wanted to go. We're both off tomorrow, so it's the perfect opportunity for us to go hike as a family. Honestly, I can't remember the last time we did that. I'm slightly worried that the little kids and I are going to be too sore to fully enjoy it, but I'm going to remain optimistic. It's supposed to be a really beautiful hike, and I fully intend to appreciate it.
