Who would choose 2

This will be an elaboration from my first entry on who would choose to be a homosexual anywhere on the earth because I really don't think that my point was well received, but I also don't think that it's not just a matter of sharing my opinion but the fact that often times people care very little about issues that they are not apart of.

So this is just a plea for understanding and sympathy. I've explored all the sides, I've come to this understanding that religion is the main driving force behind anti-homosexuality and misunderstandings. I also understand that not all religious people condemn homosexuality and that they say it is the "act" and not the "individual", but it can be very difficult to discern between the two when the act and the individual go hand in hand.

With that said, society doesn't make it easy to be homosexual. Today I read some comments on youtube that just solidify everything I've learned about why it's difficult to be homosexual in any society and place on earth. I'll share a few of those comments now:

"Dykes, faggots, gays, trannies and ANY other subculture of homosexuality should be made illegal or eradicated from the human species."

"What is this world coming too ? God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve."

"I don't hate gays but it not right"

"I hate the sin not the person. I follow what Gods word says not what man decides. Gay marriage, relationships etc, are sinful and wrong. God will have his judgement"

"Homosexuals are hilarious to watch! Though their unnatural behavior is disgusting, their antics make a great group of goofballs to whatch for normal Americans to laugh at! You kids are hilarious!"

I got these comments off of youtube... I know better than to take what people say on youtube serious but their words and thoughts reflect a majority of the population so it can be hard to ignore.

With my examples... I can really only ask one question: Why would anyone choose? why would anyone come out and state that they "are gay"? It's not just the comments, it's the killings and the murders, the social isolation and other issues faced by LGBT individuals. On top of all that it's only LGBT individuals caring about these issues.

One of the differences between sexuality and race is that you can hide your sexuality... you can live a double life, you can be "straight" to those who you want to, the fact that people come out at all is an amazing feat in it self.

So back to the religious basis regarding homosexuality... nearly every religion condemns homosexuality in some way, there are questions and debates about the true meaning of the stories since it's difficult to really know what was going on during the time these religious doctrines were written and the context of the writing is not always clear. I'm going to share a piece of what the JW's say regarding homosexual acts.. I really feel their view is a reflection of how many religious people are trying to spin it:

"Such reasoning is based on the flawed notion that humans must act on their sexual impulses. The Bible dignifies humans by assuring them that they can choose not to act on their improper sexual urges if they truly want to"

The site goes on to explain that homosexual urges are similar to a persons predisposition towards violence.. and that although you may have "impulses" you shouldn't act on them.. (meaning repress your feelings by fighting them, ignoring them or praying that they will just go away) I wish it were that simple.

My point here is that homosexuals don't make up a majority of the population, we should be met with sympathy not hate.

I'm still studying homosexuality... I have to have the answers, I just feel like all the stresses in life get in the way of me accomplishing the goal I want to accomplish with my life before I die. For example today my dad stopped by, (my sister has been complaining about me) he asked me was I "depressed", he doesn't understand the half of it. He made a suggestion that I move up north for a better job opportunity.. but I don't think he was just implying moving for a job, but moving because I don't reflect the Christian values held by so many here. It's just a headache, I find life to be truly the most difficult thing, I really couldn't understand why anyone would become gay just for the heck of it when life is already stressful in itself.

Today out of frustration I created a illustration that I'm going to attempt to materialize into something scientific. It's just a hypothesis at the moment, it'll go along with all the other data and observations I've collected. This is a rough draft in written form:

Homophobia:

Starts with Religion---> religious views ----->religious order ----> religious doctrine

Turns into ---> fear of what's different ---> attempt to rationalize turns to hate ----> humans innate desire to understand and obtain order ----> questioning what is natural and unnatural

Unresolved cause ----> Lack of education ----> misinformation fuels fear ----> humans innate desire towards shunning a portion of the population ---> lack of unity among humans

All of this trickles down to quality of life and our survival instincts.

Please don't take this the wrong way, I'm not bashing people or saying that people are full of fear, hate, and ignorance. What I'm saying is that we as a human species are moral and reasoning individuals, sometimes we don't understand things, it's been that way since the beginning of time... people once thought disease was the result of sin, and a punishment from which ever God they worshiped, so they started pointing fingers at certain groups who were different from the majority.. they were trying to rationalize to find a "cause".

In my desire to understand homosexuality (scientifically) I've started to ask more questions, like is there a benefit? is this a "modern" issue? For example, our society has progressed over time to the point we don't have a strong need towards heterosexual courtship as would of been necessary year ago. Meaning that I would like to look at homosexuality in underdeveloped nations, how often does it occur? -- it brings me back to the question "is homosexuality a natural response from human overpopulation?" Maybe we are starting to put a strain on resources and genetics is kicking in to lightly reduce the population.. and I'm not saying by any means that homosexuals can't reproduce.. I'm just thinking and trying to work with what little resources I have.

I'm not a scientist.. I'm working towards it though. But I have to get through my own life first. I haven't felt stress at this magnitude in a long time, I'm getting older and I'm stressing about what decisions I need to start making to improve my life and I'm wondering if it's even possible to improve my life.

I always like to include the entire world when I write about things, I always hate when people only focus on North America and Europe, just like many of the scientific studies I read in academic journals.. they always focus on such a small group and then apply it to the rest of society.. for example I recently read a study that claimed that "self-perceived attractive people are less likely to care about equality movements and be conservative" So basically people who believe they are physically attractive don't care about social issues in the world.

Most people care mainly about issues that effect them personally, I guess it's natural to do so...

I'm going to end this.
