Research study!

So today I took part in the research study I wrote about, it was very interesting and I don't think it was completely about marketing like I thought it might be.

First off the guy who conducted it was a student at the university that was conducting the study. This is not the university that I attend... this is one of the top universities in the area, and I think even one of the top universities in North America. I'm always envious of the students who can afford to attend that school.

Anyway... so his name was Peter and he smelled like alcohol...I'm sure he was younger then me by about 4 years. As far as the smell is concerned I guess I'm not too surprised since students at this university are known to do a bit of drinking, none the less he was very professional.

As far as the study goes it was basically a series of games, it seemed more then anything they were trying to measure intelligence so I was a bit upset when he asked me to list names that began with a certain letter or count some numbers backwards and I kept messing up or getting stuck. I was so worried he might think I was dumb or something.

Anyway.. this experience has really made me want to improve myself and trust me there is a lot of improvement needed. I also can't help but to feel when I was there with him I felt guilty and sad about still being single. I haven't been alone with a guy (or anyone for that matter) in such a long time I forgot what it was like. It was honestly a wonderful feeling and nice short departure from my usual loneliness.

The series of games, questions, and test lasted 1 hour and 45 minutes. I was a bit familiar with the research methods the test used however I don't know how they all tied into each other or how some were very significant. The entire series was a collection of points and as long as I participated in the study I was to get $30 and if I made it to a certain level of points then I was to make $45.. but here is the thing that had me wondering about how the paying system worked... although he said if I had a certain level of points (at the end of the game) I'd get the extra money, however I noticed about 30 minutes into it that he had already written on a sheet that I would receive $45, I hadn't even answered anything difficult at that point.

Also the pay was instant.. which was honestly a relief, although for some reason it seemed like he was paying me out his own pocket, which I'm sure he wasn't but I would of liked to have known more about how the paying system works with research studies.

Overall I think I did pretty well, they didn't really provide an analysis of my score level in comparison with others or my age range. I'm assuming I performed average but only because when he asked me to start naming stuff for some reason my mind started to draw a blank... for instance he told me to name as many words as I could that started with the letter "S", and for some reason I could only name about 10 or so... I know more then 10 words that start with S!! so why did I stumble and draw blanks??? I'm going to have to research the significance of that because I really want to understand how that works.

I really felt motivated after leaving our session to work harder at psychology and my education in general.. the things they do are really exciting and I'd love to be apart of it instead of working my lame retail job.

As far as the money goes I plan on buying a new oven for the kitchen since the one we have hasn't worked the entire year we have been in this house.. I'll be buying a small one because you can only get so much for $45, but I'm really glad I had the chance to participate in this study and hopefully I'll get an update on it..

well I'd love to write more but my battery is about to die so maybe I'll come back later and write more about it.
