Eliminating the Middleman

What a great day I had! It wasn't that anything spectacular happened, it was just a very chill, relaxed kind of day. I took my Y-free day and now I'm ready to head back tomorrow. Bremerton for my workout, Haselwood for work. Okay, not super-stoked about Haselwood for work, but I'll get through it. I just hope I've got plenty of orientations to keep me occupied. But, I'll worry about that tomorrow. For now, I've got a couple more hours of relaxation before bedtime.

I slept in this morning until a little after 9am. I woke up slightly panicked, like I was supposed to be somewhere and overslept. I wake up pretty much every morning feeling that way. My first thoughts are usually "what time is it?", "where am I supposed to be right now?" and "am I late?" It's a sucky feeling, but it usually passes in a couple seconds. Life is so fluid right now. Every day is a little different than the last and having 3 jobs completely throws me off at times.

After lounging around for a couple hours, I got myself dressed and took care of my wifely/motherly duties. I did the grocery shopping, tended my garden and did some routine maintenance on the washing machine (i.e. pulled it out, disconnected all the hoses, pulled off the back panel and got the baby socks, underwear and color catchers out of the trap so the error message would go away). Then, I got to sit down and relax with my Star magazine and a cup of green tea until it was time to make dinner. Awesome afternoon :)

Tonight's dinner was pretty good. I made a Caesar salad with Butterhead lettuce from my own garden. It was really good, but I had a hard time enjoying it, because as I was cleaning the lettuce I found not one, but TWO live slugs tucked into the leaves!! I'm not a squeamish person (usually), but it was hard getting past seeing that in my food. I cleaned the lettuce very well and discarded the leaves the slugs were on, but even now I'm still grossed out. I tried rationalizing it for myself. Some cultures eat slugs and snails, right? I'm sure commercially grown organic produce has slugs on/in it too, it's just cleaned before it comes to market. I'm just eliminating the middleman and having to remove my own slugs. YUCK! Still grossed out... Is that slug-killing stuff considered organic, or is there an organic way to keep the slugs away from my lettuce? I should research that.
