What if...?

I was just thinking back, trying to remember moments I have spent w/my Dad...
The time he took us to Bear Mountains to hike and spend the day out. I was playing and fell, cutting my knee (I still have the scar). Dad got angry and used a switch he got from the tree to punish me for horsing around...
One of my birthday parties...and Dad trying to paddle me for something I do not even remember, while the people at the party protected me...
Dad taking us to the beach, and cursing out Mom because she forgot his swimming trunks...
Mom sending me to ask Dad for money cause she was tired of my asking her, and me becoming so scared I hyperventilated...
Dad cajoling us to go to Ecuador to ride ponies and then he would bring us right back to the U.S. We were stuck there for two years!!!...
Dad promising to teach me to ride a bike...the bike never was ridden by me. I finally learned to ride when I was 10 thanks to Alvaro, my friend...
Dad buying us a Christmas present we had to share and then getting angry because we could not play nicely together. This was actually a cool memory. Dad told us he would drop us (my brother and I) off at different schools and we would never see each other again. We were hysterical. However, instead, he took us to a restaurant in the mountains and we got to see "Alligator" in the movie theater...
Dad, sending me money once because I asked. We bought Mom a present with the cash, because I felt bad for her and in the end just could not justify using it for myself...
Dad, being called by the school, which informed him I had forged Mom's signature on the report card to hide my grades (I was maybe 9). He could have paddled me, but he felt bad when he saw what bad shape I was in due to being scared. He took me riding in his truck instead...
Dad, coming to my rescue when I almost lost my little son, lying for me, saying whatever it took because I could not.
I don't have an awful lot of memories, but when it comes right down to it...he came through when it mattered most.
Every once in a while, though, my mind goes back and makes me wonder what it would have been like to have a Dad all the time.
