Adversity Breeds Character

The mother-in-law is gone and she took my firstborn with her! I'm not going to miss Sue, but I will miss Annie :( Kiki and Keenan were sad to see her go, but I'm glad she gets to have fun experiences. Kiki isn't quite ready to be away from us for an extended period of time (and she's certainly not ready to fly home without us), so she's feeling a little left behind. Snookums and I plan on doing something special with the two little ones this weekend. So they feel like they've got a special adventure to share with Annie when she gets home :)

Today, wasn't my day to get in a good workout. This made me sad, because I was really looking forward to it (because yesterday wasn't a great workout, either). When I got to the gym, I walked into the weight room to find it crawling with some sort of team. I later found out it was a baseball team. They were in town playing against the Kitsap Blue Jackets and decided to stop in for a workout. Awesome. I didn't mind them at first, until one of them took my weight bench and 30lb dumbbells without even asking. He just sat down and started working out. I just stood there and looked at him for a minute. How rude. He could have at least asked me if it was okay for him to work in. I would have said okay and just found something else to do until he was done. Not that there was much else for me to do, since the place was so crowded. I ended up just leaving.

Since lifting wasn't going to happen, I headed upstairs to do my cardio. Thankfully, I got that much done. My plan was to stretch out a bit and then head back down to the weight room to finish my workout, but that never happened. I took my ear buds out so I could stretch without getting tangled in my cord. Bad idea. Somehow, one of the regulars (whom I see pretty much every day) decided that today was the day he needed to pour his heart out to me. I know things about him he's never told anyone else (his words). He obviously needed to talk, so I let him. Before I even realized how long I'd been "counseling" over an hour had passed. I had to stop him simply because I was out of time, but as I was leaving he thanked me for listening and told me that I'm "wise beyond my years". I hear that a lot... The way I see it, adversity breeds character and I've been through a lot.

I worked VS tonight and THANK YOU, Semi-Annual is OVER!! We still had a few sale bins and one wall of sleepwear, but the rest of the store was back to normal and the crazy crowds were gone. I spent my shift in the fitting room, which was really quite. That gave me a chance to peruse through the sale bins. I found 3 Biofit Push-ups in my new itty-bitty size (34D) in nude, blue and a really pretty pink lace. I've finally realizing what other woman love about push-ups. If it wasn't for my extra skin, I'd probably only be a 34B or C, but because I need extra space to tuck my skin into, I need a D and the extra padding helps fill up the cups so much better. It makes me a little sad that I've worked so hard to get to a healthy weight and now that I'm at it, I'm so embarrassed by how parts of me look (i.e. breast and stomach). So much skin :( To have surgery or not to have surgery, that is the question...

For dinner tonight I made some of the most amazing brussel sprouts. I sliced thin a little Walla Walla sweet onion and some Cremini mushrooms and caramelized them in olive oil, then I tossed in some steamed baby brussel sprouts and tossed them around until they got a little color on them. I seasoned it all with a little crushed garlic, Spain sea salt and cracked black pepper. Awesome. I love the way I eat. It's so flavorful, healthy and interesting. Way more enjoyable than stopping at McDonald's for a #10 on my way home. WAY better.

So, tomorrow I will try yet again to get in a good workout. I'll focus more on weights than cardio, since I work at Haselwood tomorrow and will probably get in a few laps around the track. Orientations are few and far between these days.

Right now, I think I'll get me a little snack and call it a night. It's nice to not be forced to stay up and make conversation. My Snookie is already half-asleep. I don't think he'll make me stay up and watch Jimmy Kimmel with him :)
