My Life Thus Far

Intensely Grateful

I am dead dog tired. My day ended up going nothing like I had anticipated, but it was full of rewarding experiences and happiness :) Even though things are crazy at Haselwood, it's still a great place to work. I'm worried things might get boring when the initial rush is over and all that's left to do is the occasional orientation. But, I don't have to worry about that for awhile yet.

I woke up feeling kind of slow and sluggish. I don't know why. I guess we all have our days. I got myself going, though. Just an hour behind schedule. When I got to the gym, I went into the office to get a towel (because I like to clean the machines and benches as I go) and Rhonda was in there on the phone, looking frazzled. She asked me if I'd be willing to work a 6-9:30pm shift for Paul. Today was his college graduation, he just finished his masters degree (go Paul!) I couldn't help but wonder why he hadn't tried to get his shift covered before today, but I agreed to do it. Even though I worked at Haselwood 1-5pm. The differences between the Y's are like night and day, so I knew it wouldn't be a difficult day.

I was booked solid when I got to Haselwood. One youth orientation after another. I did a total of 11 in my 4 hour shift. The welcome center staff were told not to schedule more than 3 people at a time, but they were scheduling whole families (with multiple children) with another family. At one point I had 5 kids at one time! I only get 30 minutes to show them all they need to know, so it was a tight squeeze. I excel under pressure, so I managed just fine. I'm really getting into my groove. I've got my little routine down pat, so by 5pm I was finished and ready to rush out and make it back to Bremerton.

I stopped at Target to get some more fruit, Greek yogurt and udon noodle bowls (kind of a guilty pleasure for me right now. They're vegan and organic, but a flour noodle is a flour noodle and I try to limit my simple carbs). I got a skinny caramel macchiato at Starbucks (because at this point I needed a pick-me-up), then I stopped at home for a minute to make myself a salad and change my shirt (I only had my blue Haselwood shirt with me and Bremerton is red or black). Then I high-tailed it back to Bremerton. I was 3 minutes late, but I made it! The evening was very laid back and calm. Not too many people came in. Mainly because it was so nice outside, I'm thinking. Now I'm intensely grateful to be home in my bed. My plan is to fall asleep and sleep until I wake up :) I call Saturday my sleep in day, because I don't have to work until after noon.

Speaking of sleep, I'm gonna go do that now :)
