Consistency Breeds Success

It's just barely 8pm and it feels SO much later. I've been riding an emotional roller coaster all day (good, but still trying). It's over now. I'm in my jammies, resting in bed, waiting for Snookums to bring me home some Chinese food (yes, the health nut has occasional indulgences. No, I don't feel guilty about it in the least).

I had a VERY hard time concentrating on my workout this morning. I kept thinking about my impending interview. What I would say, what he would ask, what they were looking for. Anything and everything. It didn't help that part way through my strength-training Jose came into the weight room and started working out. That felt super-awkward. Like he was watching me. I made sure my form was spot-on :)

As I was finishing up my cardio (a quick 15 minute HIIT routine - high intensity interval training) and going to the mats to do my stretching, I was asked by a couple of girls (who had been watching me work out) if I was the girl on the poster. We ended up getting into a 30 minute conversation. One of them was herself over 240 pounds, so she had a ton of questions. I answered them as best I could. I know some of my answers weren't the answers she wanted to hear (like when she asked if I'd ever tried Acai diet pills). I made it very clear. No pills, no shakes, no diets. Live a healthy life ALL the time and it will all fall into place. Consistency breeds success.

So, in case anyone was wondering... I GOT THE JOB!! Half way through the interview Jose stopped me in mid-sentence and said "I'm not going to beat around the bush, I want you". That could have been taken a couple of ways, but since this was an interview I knew what he meant ;) He had me demonstrate how I work with people in the weight room, showing him how I instruct members in their form (using free weights). It was a short interview. I think Janice already had her sights set on having me on her team, which is fine. I'm just glad I got the job.

This evening the Y threw a fitness staff appreciation/farewell Janice party at McCloud's (a local dive bar with a seriously cliche country vibe). It was a good time! I was a little worried, because I haven't met a lot of the other fitness staff, but we did a little team-building activity, learned each other's names and I even won a Sun Star (some kind of flowering houseplant I've never seen before) for remembering the most random facts about my co-workers. How hard is it to listen to what people tell you?

Snookie's home! Time to enjoy my celebratory meal :)
