A Much More Manageable Mop

Nothing about my day was ordinary. Nothing bad happened, quite the contrary. I had a great day. It got better as the day wore on (this morning was slightly stressful).

Keenan let me cut his hair! While he was taking his bath (and crying because I was touching his head in an effort to condition out the knots) I decided I'd had enough of struggling with the massive tangle of curls every morning. So, I took my good shears and lobbed off 3in all around. He let me do it. I told him if he let me cut his hair, it wouldn't get tangled and I wouldn't have to brush it so much. He must have understood me (which makes me happy. Sometimes I wonder), because he sat still long enough for me to make it all nice and even. It's still a cute mop of curls, just a much more manageable mop :)

Keenan had his first dental appointment this morning. I know, I know. He's almost 3 years old, he should have been sooner. I just couldn't bring myself to do it. He's so scared of everything and has had such a rough go of it for such a young person. Snookums came as well, so I wouldn't have to pin Keenan down while Dr. Brown did what he needed to do. Turns out Keenan needs to have sealants and some other restorative dental work done. Too much to be done with him awake. The psychological damage would be too great, so he's going in for dental surgery June 9th under general anesthesia. Both Snookums and Keenan have weak enamel and are prone to caries. Fantastic. I can't believe how much my kids are like their father. Thank goodness Annie and Kiki at least have my teeth. None of us have had a single cavity. Despite all having the same oral hygiene standards, Snookums and Keenan still have problems. I wish I could understand genetics better.

After Keeny's appointment, the three of us went to Taco Time for lunch. I don't eat out like I used to because I'm such a food snob and most fast food doesn't make the cut. But, I had the white chicken chili and it was really tasty. I like that they had the calorie content on the menu. At least I was able to make an informed decision. Most people don't want to know what they're eating, but I do! Good, bad, ugly. Let me decide.

I didn't make it to the gym, but taking a day off wasn't an act of laziness at all! I spent my afternoon gardening :) I didn't have to work, it was sunny, the last frost has passed. It was time to get some veggies in the ground! I planted sweet corn, wax beans, carrots, cucumbers, zucchini, squash, Walla Walla sweet onions, spinach, Bibb lettuce and mixed greens. Oh and strawberries! I planted two 4in Ozark Beauties last summer and over the fall/winter they shot out runners and became 35 Ozark Beauties! I transplanted them into raised planters to hopefully keep them contained and adopted out 6 little plants I didn't have enough room for. I also planted Nasturtium seeds and Marigolds in the front flower garden. Everything purple from last year and the year before came back! Violas, Pansies, Hyacinth. So, the Marigold's add a nice golden pop of color and the Nasturtium are a mixed seed packet with all kinds of colors. I hope they do well. I tried planting wildflower seeds a couple years back and the only plant that took out of the whole seed mix was the Lupine. It came back last Spring and it's coming back this Spring, too! It's the pride of my flower garden, because it gets SO tall and has the most striking purple flower stalks. I love it :)

I'm so sore. Between Zumba last night and my extended 5 hour squat (gardening), my butt and thighs are screaming! This I also love :)
