My Life Thus Far

Pain Is It's Own Pleasure

All day I've been struggling with this pervasive feeling of fatigue. I kept going through the motions of the day, but really I would have rather taken a nap than go about my errands.

I only weight-lifted at the gym today. I actually hate running on the treadmill at the gym (especially when it's sunny outside, like it was today), so I put off cardio until later. I knew I'd be taking Tanner out. I guess I could have done a little on the ArcTrainer, elliptical, stationary bike or StairMaster (I like those machines), but because I was feeling so tired, I didn't. I really need a day where I can just sleep in as late as my body wants to. I've been staying up late, getting up early and having busy day after busy day for far too long. If I wasn't in such good shape, I probably would have crashed a long time ago.

I dropped Keenan off at home with Snookums so they could take their afternoon nap and I was off to run last-minute errands. Snookums and I decided we want to do an egg hunt for the kids here at home on Easter. They're going to the Holly Ridge egg hunt tomorrow, but we had nothing planned for Sunday. I went back to Target and got some candy-filled eggs to hide. I feel slightly guilty that I've never colored eggs with the kids, but I remember from my childhood that it was terribly messy. I'm not even going there. What they don't know won't hurt them... I also got a couple muffin pans. I totally forgot Snookums threw my old ones out because they rusted. I'm glad I remembered because I'll need them to bake Kiki's cupcakes.

By the time I got to the Commissary, I was so tired I walked in and couldn't even remember what I was there for! I even stopped at Starbucks and had a snack (fruit and nut trail mix) and a skinny caramel macchiato in the hopes that it would boost my energy level. I was there for Easter dinner stuff. Snookums couldn't decide between ham or Cornish game hen, so we're having both. Along with lots of fresh veggies and a garlic herb baguette. It should be good.

After dinner, I took Tanner out for our run. He was much more distracted today, but it was still good. As we were coming up on our 3 mile point (a full lap around Jackson Park), Snookums came out on the dining room balcony and called Tanners name. So, guess who ran straight home? I decided to go ahead and finish the rest of my run on my own. Snookums made me bring my knife since it was getting dark, but it wasn't THAT dark and I made sure to stay on the main streets. I ended up doing an additional 5 miles on top of the 3 I did with Tanner! That is my longest run yet! I bought a hydration belt online and I'm pretty sure that's why I was able to go further. I hate carrying a water bottle in my hand, but I don't mind wearing the belt and it gives me a place to put my cellphone, mp3 player (knife) that isn't jiggly pockets. I always feel like my stuff is going to pop right out as I run.

The extra 2 miles I'm not used to are taking their toll at the moment. My achilles tendons are killing me. I'm not sure what I did to make them sore, but they're feeling very tight. I took an Ibuprofen, so that should help. Sometimes pain is it's own pleasure :) I have no regrets. If it hadn't gotten so dark (and I wasn't afraid of getting hurt/tripping/falling) I would have kept on running! Maybe I should invest in some Knuckle Lights?
