A Little Spot In My Heart

I'm not sure what possessed me to be so productive today, but I was a machine! I went to the gym and had a kick-ass workout. Over an hour of weight-lifting, 6 miles on the treadmill, 10 minutes on the StairMaster and 10 minutes on the stationary bike (I like the way they work my glutes and hamstrings, my target areas).

Snookums was already home when I got home from the gym and we decided that since it hadn't rained for two days straight, we should tackle the backyard. Well, since he's still suffering a knee injury I decided to tackle the backyard. So, I got it all mowed and cleaned up. With the exception of my garden. I'm saving that for another day. I got the craziest surprise while cutting the grass! I found a little bird's nest with three little white and brown speckled eggs in it. I have no idea what species of little bird nests on the grown, but it doesn't seem like the best idea if you ask me. I hope mama bird comes back for them. I didn't touch the nest and I instructed the kids not to touch it either. I hate to think that I ended three little bird's lives just so my lawn could look nice :( I am Buddhist, after all...

I think Tanner knows we want to get rid of him. He's been behaving SO much better the past couple days. His usual triggers (the kids being wild, the doorbell ringing, other dogs barking) haven't been setting him off. Maybe there's hope for him after all... Tonight when I took him on his walk, it started to rain a little bit (glad I got the grass cut earlier!) and I wanted to get home before the downpour started. Last summer he wouldn't let me run while holding his leash. He'd try to jump on me, bite the leash, bark. It was impossible, but tonight it was like I've been running with him all along. I started at a slow jog and picked up the pace a little. He just kept right up with me. I think he might have even saved me from abduction (or not)... On our second lap around Jackson Park, we were running down Austin Dr (which has a few streetlights out and there aren't any houses on it) when a dark blue Jeep Grand Cherokee with very dark tinted windows slowed down and started to stop next to us. All of a sudden Tanner went crazy! Jumping and barking at the car. It sped up and was gone. I'm sure it was just someone that wanted to ask directions, but Tanner wasn't having it. He didn't bark at other people we passed on the sidewalk or any other cars. Even ones that stopped at stop signs or slowed down for speed bumps, he never does. Walks (and now runs!) are one thing he's really good at. I don't know what was different about that car... I have a running partner now and one that can protect me :) Tanner just won a little spot in my heart (since no one else in my life wants to run with me). I wonder how far a Wheaten Terrier can run before he gets tired? I should probably look that up.

I'm not going to have any trouble getting to sleep tonight. I'm putting this laptop down and closing my eyes... tomorrow will be another fantastic day, I can feel it :)
