Excellence Comes in Many Forms

OOPS! I didn't mean to not write last night. Somehow I just forgot and when I remembered I'd forgotten I was already in bed, half-asleep. I told myself I'd write this morning, but time slipped away from me, then it was time for me to get ready for work (I work at the Y every Saturday). I'm here now and that's all that matters, right?

Yesterday evening was a little out of the ordinary. Snookums and I didn't spend it at home and I didn't go to work (at VS) as is our usual nightly ritual. Instead, I took Keenan with me to one of my VS manager's mother's house so we could work on our Recycle the Runway project (basically, our mall holds this competition where any store that chooses to participate, designs and creates a dress made only out of their store's recyclable packaging. In our case, pink striped Victoria's Secret bags and tissue paper. The winning store gets dinner out for 10 employees). Snookums took the girls to Red Robin for dinner, Coldstone Creamery for ice cream and then to see the movie Rio. By the time we all got home, it was right to bed for everyone!

I was so tired last night that I went to sleep immediately and woke up feeling really great. I love a good night's sleep :) It sets me up for success the rest of the day. I slept in until around 9am, which gave me a couple hours to do my online "errands", which was when I'd planned on writing here, but I got distracted by other things. It's easy to do when surfing the net. Before I knew it, it was time to get ready for work (which isn't really work, I need to think of something else to call it. Maybe my paid workout?)

I saw the coolest thing this afternoon! This guy (who is a good 5 or 6 inches shorter than me), stacked all of the plyometric boxes on top of each other (making a tower about 4ft high) and then jumped on top of them. Not a running jump, either. He stood a couple of feet away and then just jumped up like it was nothing! It was truly inspiring. I'm continually amazed by the feats of athleticism the human body is capable of achieving. I don't know why anyone would want to settle for being mediocre, when everyone is able to improve upon themselves and reach heights of mental and physical greatness. I have yet to reach my peak (and I hope I never do). I want to keep growing, learning and achieving as long as I live. I don't particularly need to be able to jump 4ft in the air, but it's a good example of what excellence can be and excellence comes in many forms.

I got yet another job offer yesterday. It's been rummaging around in my mind all day. They're opening a new YMCA in Silverdale (under construction, due to open this summer). The director of the Bremerton Y is going there once it opens and she asked if I'd be interested in applying for a Health Coach position there. It's part-time, so I could still be a Fitness Assistant at the Bremerton branch, too. I seriously think I want to do it. I only get one day a week right now, so I definitely have the time for it. It would mean I'd have 3 jobs, but as some people like to call me, I'm superwoman. Why the hell not?! There's no doubt it's something I love doing and I relish the opportunity to help other's reach their goals in a healthy attainable/sustainable way. If not tonight, definitely tomorrow, I'll be filling out that online application...
