Doggy Therapy

It is my sincere hope that I get to bed earlier tonight, so I'm writing earlier. Usually, writing is the last thing I do (at midnight) and it seems that I'm staying up a little later each night. I need to reverse the trend before it becomes a problem and my amount and quality of sleep suffers (it kind of already is). Not to mention, I'm having a hard time getting going in the morning, which cuts into my workout time. I just need to get my butt to bed earlier, period! Starting tonight :)

The rescue lady and her dog behaviorist came this afternoon. It actually went a lot better than I thought it would. Tanner was at his all-time WORST, which was actually a good thing. They got to see him in all his glory (and what he's capable of). The behaviorist agrees with us. This dog is NOT a good fit for our family. It's not his fault, this is just the way it is. We've tried to do right by him, but he's got deep-seeded behavior problems that will take awhile to resolve. We're not qualified nor do we want to be qualified. I'm just glad Tanner's story will have a happy ending. He's not going to bounce from home to home. He won't languish in a shelter. Or worse. I won't even let myself think about the worse...

The "dog whisperer" wants to take Tanner into his pack. He's only willing to take in 12 dogs at a time, but a few of the ones he's fostering now are coming up for adoption this weekend. Hopefully next week he'll have a place for him. He'll put Tanner through doggy therapy and some more in-depth training, then find him an appropriate home. Tanner's breed (Soft-coated Wheaten Terrier) is not the greatest with small children. Not that he's a bad dog for kids, but older ones would be a better fit. He deserves the right home.

On a completely unrelated note, I really wish the weather would improve. Spring is taking f-o-r-e-v-e-r to show up. Rain, rain and more rain. There was even some snow falling today. I'm ready to start my vegetable garden! I learned from last year's garden (what grows well in my yard and what doesn't) and none of those vegetables can be planted until after the last frost.
