My Life Thus Far

My Y Story

It's done! It took forever to write these three little paragraphs (because I wanted to word it just right), but it's finished and has been e-mailed off to my supervisor. I hope she likes it. The more I read it, I wonder if it sounds personal enough. I wanted to make it a little detached, since hundreds of people will be reading it, but I still want it to be inspirational. Let me know what you think...

"After having my third baby, I found myself at the highest weight I have ever been. I had borderline high blood pressure, I was pre-diabetic and suffered from a host of other weight-related medical problems. I was also at increased risk for heart disease, cancer and other serious conditions which run in my family. I quickly realized it was time to make a change. My life depended on it.

I became a Y member in March of 2009 and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made! Every time I come, there is always someone happy to see me and if I don't come, to ask where I've been. I feel like people genuinely care and because of that, I've met and exceeded my fitness goals. With the help of what I consider to be a second family, I've managed to lose 92 pounds and can feel myself getting stronger everyday. I never imagined I could be as healthy as I am now!

My story has come full circle. In March of 2011, I became a member of the Health and Well-Being staff, working in the weight room. It feels good to be part of the team! Ultimately, I hope to become a certified personal trainer and nutritionist, so I can help others reach their goals. None of this would have been possible without my YMCA."
