For Keenan It's Worth It

Thank you for all the wonderful, supportive responses I
got in regards to resuming lactation. I know to some it
might seem extreme, but if you were in my shoes, I'm sure
you'd consider doing the same thing. Our society has
gotten away from the benefits of breastfeeding, especially
older babies and toddlers. In my opinion, I think the milk
I produce has GOT to be better for my son than the "almond
beverage" he's drinking right now. Not that there's
anything wrong with it. I just think my milk has to be
more nutritionally complete and not to mention FREE. I
nursed because I didn't want to pay for formula (among
other reasons) and I'm still in that position now.

I've pumped twice today and while I didn't yield a whole
heck of a lot, I can feel the change in my breasts.
Something is happening in there! The glands near my
armpits are slightly sore (like they were when I was
nursing a newborn) and I'm a little swollen. Hopefully I
don't swell enough to require bigger bras! I just got down
to a 34DD/36D. The 36D's have a little room to spare, but
I might have to set aside the 34DD's for a bit. Again. For
Keenan it's worth it.

I had a wonderfully relaxing day at home. I drove Annie to
Safety Patrol this morning, then the little one's and I
came home. We just hung out in the living room, watching
cartoons and playing with the Apple Grove Pals play set
Keenan got for Christmas. I also did more research on
Celiac Disease and gluten intolerance. I feel like I can't
know enough about the topic. I'm finding all sorts of
great resources and information the more I search. Bing is
quickly becoming my new best friend :)

For dinner I made jambalaya with smoked sausage and I
tried out the GF (gluten-free) cookie mix I bought a few
days ago. Let me just say, even if you're not following a
GF diet, Namaste cookie mix makes a wonderfully soft and
chewy cookie. I added some vanilla and cinnamon to the mix
and made a delightful snickerdoodle :) I had to wrap them
up and put them on a high shelf in the pantry because my
children were going through them like wildfire!

On the note of cookies, I feel a little bad for Annie.
It's Girl Scout cookie time and I don't foresee us
ordering much from her like I have in the past. They all
clearly say they contain wheat, milk AND soy. All of which
Keenan can't have and we're trying to avoid. Although,
we're still up in the air about whether to have the whole
family go GF or just Keenan and I... It's such a hard
decision :( Snookums and I are going to help her hit up
all our friends and family, though. She's getting her 2010
cookie queen patch no matter what!
