My Life Thus Far

Paying It Forward

For some reason, I woke up feeling very lazy. It didn't
last all day, but the better part of it. I needed some
down time. Probably because 6 days out of the week I'm
running, running - always busy, never stopping. So, today
I rested. Snookums on the other hand, was all over the
place! He cleaned the house, did laundry and still found
time to play a few games of tennis with me and take a
leisurely family stroll. It was a great day.

I spent my morning lounging in bed, and then on the couch,
watching Real Housewives of Atlanta (those chicks are
crazy!) and chatting on Myspace and Facebook on my phone.
I LOVE being able to do that. The only time I really use
the computer now is for writing in my diary. It's too slow
tapping out an entry on a tiny keyboard. I easily lose my
train of thought and it stifles my literary voice :)

After Snookie was done cleaning, we put on our workout
clothes and went down to Elwood Point to play tennis.
Usually it's just us down there. Today for some reason it
was INSANELY busy! There were people playing basketball,
volleyball, tennis, baseball AND frisbee on top of a mess-
load of kids playing on the equipment. It felt like the
Jackson Park Olympics! It was great, though. It definitely
fosters a sense of community talking with your neighbors
and even Snookums was chatting with some of the guys from
the ship. It's an aspect of military life I actually like.
I think everyone wants to feel like they belong somewhere
and since we live on the corner of the street, on the
water, next to the park, everybody seems to know who we
are. We're popular :)

When we got home from our walk, the kids were exhausted so
I warmed them up some Chef Boyardee and sent them off to
bed. I made Snookums and I baked cod, rice pilaf and
broccoli. We had a quiet dinner together and actually
talked. REALLY talked about things for the first time
since I can't even remember. I better understand what's
been bothering him lately, some of his stresses and why
he's been so introverted lately. It was a good thing.

I'm not sure if I mentioned it or not, but one of my co-
workers and the girls' old babysitter, Selena is coming to
stay with us for awhile. It's a complicated situation as
to why she's coming to stay with us (her business, not
mine to share), but she's going to be our au pair for
awhile. She and her boyfriend stopped by to bring her bed.
He's in the Navy and going out to sea soon, so tonight was
their only chance to do it. I'm looking forward to
spending time with her and having her help around the
house and with the kids. When Snookums and I were first
starting out a friend of his let us stay with him until we
could get on our feet. This is kind of our way of paying
it forward - giving back something that was given to us.

Tonight is Snookums' last night of the sleep study. He's
been having a hard time getting good sleep with the
machine strapped to his chest and cords everywhere, but
he's been a good sport about it. I hope they're able to
help him. It's almost 10pm, time to hook Snookie up and
hopefully get some sleep. Ciao.
