My Life Thus Far

One Tough Female

It's 91 degrees inside my house and all of my family
members are about to lose their minds. Me personally, the
heat isn't a big deal. Summer is pretty much the only time
of year when my hands and feet aren't numb from being
cold. Snookums says I'm cold-blooded like a reptile. I
need the sun to raise my body temperature :) I can't help
it if I'm anemic (well, I can but you know what I mean).
The only thing stopping me from loving the heat is the
fact that my family hates it. Kiki and Keenan are whining
and Annie is defiant and irritable. Snookums is cranky and
sweating like he's in a sauna. The cats are catatonic. I'm
the only one not ready to relocate to Alaska. And it's
only gonna get hotter this week.. Oh joy.

I had a great morning with Gen. We went to Starbucks as
usual, but instead of sitting there with 4 squirmy kids,
we went to Island Lake Park to let them run around for
awhile. We sat and talked while they ran around. It was
nice. All these years I've lived in Kitsap County I'd
never been there - heard of it a million times, but never
went. Snookums hadn't either.

After spending the morning with Gen I did my usual gym-
thing. I had a bit of a bothersome experience. My first
since I started going to the Y... As I was coming out of
the women's locker room there was a group of men standing
in front of the water fountain next to the basketball
courts. I had to walk through them to get to the weight
room. No big deal, that's just how it is Monday,
Wednesdays and Fridays. As I was walking through, one of
the men (whom I'd never seen before) said "hey, how you
doin'". I just figured he was being friendly, so I
said "fine, thank you" and kept walking. Well, a minute or
so later I was working out on the hip adductor/abductor
machine and he came up to me. "Hey, my name is Tom" and
he offered me his hand. I shook it and said "hi" again.
Now he was starting to irritate me. He asked me my name,
if I worked out here often, then proceeded to tell me he
saw me here all the time (then why did he ask me if I
worked out there a lot?), he told me I was in good
shape... I walked away and went to the next machine in my
circuit. He just kept following me! Trying to make
conversation. Finally, another guy that was standing
by the water fountain came into the weight room. Pizza Guy
(the Papa John's guy that delivers pizza to my house
sometimes). So, Tom went to talk to him. The weight room
isn't very big, I could hear everything they were saying.
It's not like I'm deaf:

Tom: "See that girl over there."
Pizza Guy: "Yeah."
Tom: "Ain't she hot?"
Pizza Guy: "Yeah, but she's married."
Tom: "That don't mean nothin'."
Pizza Guy: "Okay man... I know where she lives."
Tom: "How'd you manage that, playa?!"
Pizza Guy: "I deliver to her house all the time."
Tom: "You need to hook a brotha up."

At this point I'm pissed off, freaked out and ready to
kick both of them in the nuts. I just left the weight room
and went to do my cardio. I'm hoping Pizza Guy has enough
sense NOT to tell Tom where I live, but if he is the
complete moron I think he is, at least Jason is home and
I'm not alone. Why does things like this always happen? I
wanted to cry out of frustration and anger. I'm not Tyra
Banks or some drop-dead gorgeous supermodel! I'm a very
average woman, yet it seems like I'm always the target for
unwanted attention. I'm starting to think I attract it
somehow. Yeah, at first it can be flattering, but that was
just creepy. No woman wants to hear a strange man say "I
know where she lives". Snookums was supposed to meet me at
the gym, but he didn't and after I told him about it he
was pissed off, too. Absolutely nothing is going to keep
me from going to the gym, but let me tell you this. I WILL
be adding another 10 pounds to all of my machines. If
anybody tries anything I'm gonna be one tough female to
take down!

Snookums talked me into letting Annie play hooky from Girl
Scouts tonight so we could go out as a family.
Surprisingly, something we haven't done a lot of since
he's been home. I got out-voted on our dinner location
(Kings Wok Buffet. Americanized Chinese food), but I did
get to pick the after dinner activity. We went back to
Island Lake Park to walk the trail, since Snookums had
never been. Thanks Gen! It ended up being a nice evening.

The kids are finally asleep and my husband is walking
around naked! Goodness gracious :) I think it's shower-
time. I've already taken one today, but I could use
another... Ciao!
