My Life Thus Far

Unexpectedly Wonderful

I've had two long days in a row. Yesterday was expected,
today was not. Sunday's are generally my day off, but me
being unable to say "no" somehow got myself roped into a
full day of work...

Yesterday was a GREAT day. One of my unexpectedly
wonderful days. I love those. Nothing but my ordinary
life, yet that in and of itself is wonderful. I have
nothing to complain about (which is kind of becoming my
mantra).

I had an excellent workout. Snookums went into check on a
couple things at work, so I figured I'd get in a bonus
workout (Saturday's aren't mandatory, but every once in
awhile I'll throw one in for the added benefit). He was
home when I got home and we spent the rest of the
afternoon hanging out with the kids, relaxing around the
house, enjoying a warm, sunny Saturday.

At 6pm Amy came to take over for us so we could go out on
a date :) Our last date was a fiasco. I don't think I was
writing at the time, but to make a long story short,
Snookums and I went to the casino and he somehow managed
to lose ALL of our date money before we could even have
dinner. We ended up coming home an hour later and I barely
spoke to him for 3 days... I got over it and I still love
him :) He redeemed himself last night, though.

He made reservations for dinner at Outback. Not my first
choice of restaurants, but I'm all about compromise these
days. I had a wonderful salmon fillet with lobster and
mushroom cream sauce on it. We split a dessert and I left
feeling satisfied, but not stuffed (lifestyle changes are
allowed even on dates). I don't miss the days when I'd
stuff myself to the point of nauseousness.

After dinner we went for a walk along the Poulsbo
waterfront. We stopped at a little coffee shop and got
lattes because the sun was going down and it was starting
to get a little chilly. It was amazing. Such a beautiful
night. The Poulsbo waterfront holds a lot of memories for
us. When we first moved in together (and eventually
married) we lived in Poulsbo and we NEVER had money. We
were "bill broke" as I liked to put it. After rent and
necessities there was never much left, so we took a lot of
walks along that boardwalk. After we moved to Port Orchard
and then here we rarely venture that far north, but last
night the movie we wanted to see wasn't playing in
Silverdale. So, what started out as a killing-time measure
turned into a sweet walk (literally) down memory lane.

If you haven't seen Bruno, I have no idea whether to tell
you to see it or not. The trailer does NOT give you an
real clue as to what the movie is really about. It's
somewhere between totally hilarious and nasty gay porn. If
you're religious, highly moral or in any way homophobic
don't bother going to see it. If you have a dirty sense of
humor and can handle male full-frontal nudity and lots and
lots of sex (gay and straight), go ahead. I was laughing
most of the time (when I wasn't totally grossed out), but
Jason was ready to walk out. I'm not sure why he's so
homophobic, but he didn't like it at all. He'd laugh
occasionally but anything mildly gay sent him to the edge
of his chair and not in a good way.

Today was supposed to be a cleaning house/laundry day, but
I got a call from Tamara around 2pm asking if I'd please
come in. Her closer forgot she worked today and was in
Seattle (unable to get back in time). Why I said I'd go in
I'm not sure and Snookums wasn't too pleased about it, but
Tamara needed somebody and I knew calling me had to have
been her last resort (weekends are out of my
availability). Instead of being a little 4 hours shift as
I'd expected (a couple hours to close and we had a meeting
from 7-8pm), it ended up being closer to 6 hours. I got
there a little after 3:30pm. The mall closes at 6pm. Just
as were were closing the front gates the back doorbell
rang. Tamara handed me the keys and said "oh, the carpet
cleaners are here, can you let them in?" This was the
first I'd heard about carpet cleaning. I've worked carpet
cleaning shifts and I know they're a 3 hours process, but
whatever. I open the door let them in. Tamara asked them
how long it would take. The guy said "I've got 4 people
working tonight, it'll be two hours tops". Well, that
didn't happen. We closed up the store, had our meeting and
by 8pm they weren't even half way done! Tamara and I were
there until 9:30pm. I hadn't expected a night that long
and Snookums hadn't either.

I stopped at Taco Bell to get him a little treat for being
so patient with me today (I totally bailed on him and left
him with the cleaning and the kids. A normal day for me.
Not so much for him). When I got home the house was
perfect, the kids asleep and he was folding the last load
of clothes. Have I mentioned I've got an amazing
husband? :) Ciao.
