My Life Thus Far
Utterly Thankless
I meant to write last night, but when I got home I wasn't
feeling up to it... been feeling that way a lot lately.
Ironically enough, it's not because I haven't been happy
(I tend to not write when I'm really down. When I probably
SHOULD be writing the most). I've just been so preoccupied
with life. I don't feel like introspecting as much as I
normally do. I'm happy just living :)
Last night I got a break from the normal. I thought my
shift was scheduled (or at least, I wrote it on the
calendar as such), but turns out it was an on-call. So, I
went in like I was supposed to, only to find out they
didn't need me. So I got a whole unexpected evening to
myself! I figured since I already had Amy with the kids, I
was dressed and in town I might as well take advantage of
it. So, I stopped by the bank and deposited the money
Helena sent me (to find a new dress for Jason's
homecoming), stopped in Starbucks and got an iced Caramel
Macchiato and went shopping! Alone! I went to Ross and
bought a new burgundy Jacquard bedding set, some cute
summer tops and a new dress. It wasn't THE DRESS, but it's
cute. Short, purple with little rosettes around the halter
neckline... hard to explain, but cute. It was a 4:30-8:30
shift (so I'd thought). After that I came home and my
sitter was none the wiser :) I felt a little guilty about
not asking her if I could go shopping, but I figured what
she didn't know wouldn't hurt her. I am paying her, after
all.
The beginning of my day was textbook... nothing
interesting there, but at 4pm my house exploded into
activity. Within a 30 minute window Annie came home from
school, Amy and Kayla came over with their uncle/dad (in
that order/same guy), I had to get ready for work, make
the girls a sack dinner (because Amy didn't bring one and
Annie would have tried to bring a box of Popsicles or some
other unrealistic food item), helped Annie pack, gave
Kayla instructions (because she was babysitting in Amy's
absence) and still managed to get to work on time. Why so
much activity? Annie and Amy had a Girl Scout Encampment
trip this weekend. Amy's uncle agreed to drive them there
because I had to work and I'll pick them up on Sunday. The
only crappy thing is both Amy and Annie forgot their
permission slips and uniforms and I'm the only one
available to take it to them. So, I have to drive 2 hours
out of my way to drop off it off to them. Crappy. I
thought I was getting a break this weekend with one less
kid, but turns out I just signed up for 4 hours of
driving. Being a parent can be utterly thankless sometimes.
I should go to sleep now. I've got a busy day ahead of me
tomorrow. Ciao.
