She Can Have At It

Helena went grocery shopping, so I've got a few moments to
write. I always feel weird being on the computer when
she's here. I'll have plenty of time to write when she
leaves, but for now I'd rather sit and chat over chocolate
fudge cake (I could do without the fudge cake, but I can't
turn it down. She's made it a tradition. Something we do
every night she's here after we put the children to bed).

Yesterday was a busy, tiring, better yet - exhuasting day.
Sandy dropped the boys off first thing. I made the kids
French toast, scrambled eggs and sausage for breakfast
then scooted them outside to play while I tried to get the
last minute picking up done before Helena's arrival. I
don't know why I obsess over that every time. It's not
like my house is ever that bad. I don't live in squallor
or anything. It's just lived in. A house full of children
and one person responsible for it's upkeep. I do my best.

In my rush to get 5 children out the door and into the RAV
and Helena's rental, I somehow manged to forget the two
things I needed most (after the children). My camera and
the reservation confirmation. Gen saved me by letting me
borrow her camera and I booked online, so they had my
reservation info already. A small crisis was quickly
averted and the rest of the day went by smoothly. Kiki's
party went better than I'd expected it to. It wasn't
crowded liked I'd anticipated. Kiki was the only one at
2pm having a birthday party. The non-reserved side of the
place was packed like a can of sardines, but we had tons
of room to ourselves. I couldn't have asked for things to
go smoother. We ended up staying there until almost 6pm!
Helena, Kisha, Sandy and I just sat talking while the kids
played. It was just as enjoyable for the adults as the
kids!

When we got home, Kiki opened presents and played with her
new toys, then it was too long after that everybody
(including us big people) headed off to bed. I slept from
11pm to 9am and it felt great. Why can't I sleep like that
all the time? There's something about having another adult
in the house that puts me at ease. I'm not always on guard.

As I expected, Helena is home now (bearing a week's worth
of food) and looking for laundry to wash. I can't stop her
and I don't really feel like trying. She can have at it.
Ciao.
