My Life Thus Far

Oddly Satisfying

I'm tired, but I feel good :) I woke up feeling almost
normal this morning. I really needed my workout after
missing it yesterday. Of course I was in no condition to
be working out and I'm sure the other people at the gym
wouldn't have appreciated my family's stomach virus.
Although, it appears that I gave it to Tamara (my manager)
and that kind of makes me feel vindicated. She rarely
shows real sympathy when others are sick. On Tuesday
night, when I came in even though I knew I was sick
(because it was too late to call out) Rebecca wanted to
send me home right away, but Tamara guilted me into
staying until it was obvious that I couldn't keep up the
bubbly shop girl facade any longer. Now she's not feeling
well and I hope it teaches her a little compassion. People
aren't going to want to help her if she's not willing to
bend a little for them.

Anyhow, I digress... My work out was great. I've found a
new favorite machine. When I used to go to the gym on
base, I loved the Precor Elliptical, but now I'm in love
with the ArcTrainer. It's got a wide range of motion, lots
of resistance and incline levels. I love the workout I get
(mainly because it doesn't feel like I'm working as hard
as I am - until I step off and I've got jelly legs)! It
doesn't hurt that there's a TV monitor on it and I can
watch Paula Deen make smothered pork chops, three bean
chili, peach crumble, cinnamon rolls, potato salad, etc.,
as I burn calories. I think I'd only love it more if it
had smell-o-vision :) I'm not sure why I enjoy it so much.
Most people would feel tempted by watching Food Network
while exercising, but it's oddly satisfying for me.

Work tonight was odd. It started on my way to work. There
are a few intersections in Silverdale that have those red
light cameras and I think I might be getting a ticket in
the mail one of these days. Well, Snookums will. He
registered the RAV, it's in his name. For some reason I
totally spaced and didn't stop at the red light before
turning right into the mall parking lot. I'm not sure how
the red light camera works (if it only catches red light
runners going through the intersection or if it can detect
a right hand turner that doesn't come to a complete stop).
Either way, I'll accept whatever comes to me. I was wrong
and that's the strange part, because I'm usually so
careful. Then, when I got into the store, there was
nothing but total chaos going on in the back. It would
have been great if someone had told me tonight the store
was getting inventoried. An outside company comes in and
does it for us (which is better than us doing it), but
it's so messy and I swear they find these auditors on the
side of the road or something. They always smell bad and
look at you like they've never seen a woman before. I'm
not judging, I'm just telling it like it is. If that
wasn't enough to throw a normal night off, then we had
mall security and the Sheriff's department coming in to
question Tamara and Alicia about some stranger stalker-guy
that's been coming in to read Alicia newspaper articles
and her horoscope. I guess he attacked some girl and has
been banned from the mall for 6 months. Crazy.

My last odd experience was on the way home. I'd just
turned into Jackson Park, when a base police car pulled
up behind me. He turned on his lights and I pulled over. I
knew I wasn't doing anything. My lights were on, I wasn't
speeding. Maybe it was because I don't have a back license
plate on yet (it's in the back window, I still haven't
gotten those screws fixed). But, he didn't mention
anything about it. He came up to the window and asked me
if I'd seen any suspicious people walking around. I
said "no" and he told me to have a good night. That was
it. I don't know if I should be comforted that they're
being so cautious about suspicious people or if I should
worry about stopping for the "rent-a-cops" (as Snookums
calls them). I like to think of myself as a strong woman,
but I don't ever want to have to test that strength (at
least not in that way).

During my break tonight I stopped in Barnes & Noble to get
some books. I love the library, but sometimes I hate
giving the books back. So, I dropped $50 on three books
(which of course makes the library so much more appealing
for casual reading materials). I got a few books I know
I'll get years of use out of; Married To the Military: A
Survival Guide for Military Wives, Girlfriends, and Women
in Uniform; The Way of the Buddha (which is mainly quotes
and artwork, but it was too beautiful not to buy) and
Buddha: A Story of Enlightenment (a novel written by
Deepak Chopra about Buddhas journey from ordinary Prince
to Enlightened One). I'm really looking forward to
starting this one. There's so much I don't know, but the
more I read the more I love the Buddhist ideology. No
longer am I ashamed (wary might be a better word) of
admitting I'm not Christian. I've found something better
(for me). I need to read, read and read some more, though.
I've got a lot to learn. Ciao.
