An Unbelievable Act of Kindness

Just after my daughter moved away to college, we drive up
there with some friends who also had a son attending the
same school. When our visit was over, we all piled back
into my friend's vehicle and hit the interstate for the
five hour drive home. We were on the road just a little
over thirty minutes when the car started acting up and
eventually stopped running.

My friend and I got out and made our best assessment - a
bad alternator. After sitting there for a little while,
trying to determine the best course of action to take, a
couple pulled up in a truck and the man asked if we needed
any help. We told him our situation and he got out. After
looking under the hood, he made the same assessment - a
bad alternator.

What the man did next is totally unbelievable. It turns
out that he was a diesel mechanic for UPS and it just so
happened that he always carried his tools around with him.
This man removed the alternator as the car sat on the side
of the interstate and then offered to drive us to the
nearest part store to get a new one.

When my friend got ready to pay for the alternator he
found out that he had left his wallet in the broken down
vehicle, so this guy put the alternator on his card and
trusted my friend to pay him back. After finally getting
the alternator paid for, he drove us back to the car and
installed the alternator for us.

As if all of this wasn't crazy enough, we also found out
that he had seen us broken down as they were heading down
the interstate in the opposite direction. He actually went
out of his way to exit and then come back to where we were
broke down. I have never been the recipient of such an act
of kindness in all my life.
