Holiday Cheer On Our Grills

*****

I love it when I have one of those days that's just
PERFECT. When nothing goes wrong, I get everything done I
intend to get done and sometimes more. A day I get to
spend with my family, doing things I love doing... Today
was precisely one of those days. I'm tired, I've got a
headache and I'm SO ready for bed, but it's a good tired
and I feel very satiated.

I didn't have much planned for my day. Pretty much I was
thinking of getting a little laundry done and just hanging
out with the kids. Snookums was supposed to work and I
figured he'd be home around 7:30pm like he was yesterday,
but he ended up getting home before I'd even gotten out of
bed. Annie didn't have school because it was a non-student
day, so on a whim we decided to go cut down our Christmas
tree and get the house all decorated. I can't believe the
holidays are here already! But they are and I want to make
them as good as possible, for as long as possible. I want
to make the most of the time Snookie has left with us
(before deployment in January).

It's been our tradition for the past 4 years to go to a
tree farm to select our Christmas tree. There's nothing
better than walking through rows and rows of beautiful
trees until that special one jumps out at you (or me I
should say. Snookie says the trees speak to me). I don't
look too hard or think too much about it. I just walk down
the rows, enjoy the experience and then it happens. That
perfect tree speaks to me and that's it :) I sound crazy,
but that's pretty much how it happens. This year we ended
up getting a Noble Fir. I usually prefer Douglas Firs. I
think they epitomise the essence of a perfect Christmas
tree, but I'm thinking I like the Noble better. It didn't
lose half a ton of needles on the way into the living
room. It's still got that intense pine-y scent I love so
much and it's got strong sturdy branches for the
collection of ceramic ornaments Helena gave me in 2006.
This might just be our best Christmas tree yet :)

On top of selecting our tree, we also got it all
decorated. We decorated the inside of the house (while
listening to secular holiday music), put up our
decorations outside and packed away the regular
decorations (until the holiday stuff comes down). I'm not
a Christmas fanatic by any means. In fact, if I didn't
have children I probably wouldn't even celebrate Christmas
(this stems way back to my childhood and is a rather
unfortunate and long story), but I do like a little
holiday cheer. You can enjoy the holidays and not buy into
the religious aspects of it. I avoid religion. Some of the
nastiest people I know call themselves Christians.

Monday, of course is Girl Scouts night. After decking the
halls, I still found time to iron a few badges onto
Annie's uniform and while she was at her meeting I stopped
by Kmart (not my favorite place AT ALL, but it was
closest) to get Keenan a stocking (this is his first
Christmas and he didn't have one) and while I was there I
picked up the cutest wreaths for me and Snookums' cars.
Now we've got holiday cheer on our grills :) I also did my
usual grocery shopping. By the time I got home around
7:30pm, I was ready to drop. Now, at 10:30pm I'm starting
to develop the headache I always get when I'm over-tired
and ignoring my body's cues. Keenan should be ready to eat
soon and the moment he's done, I'm going to sleep. Ciao :)
