My Life Thus Far

I'm Not Blinded

****

I could go to sleep right now, but that would be bad for
two reasons. 1) It's only 7:30pm and the kids are still up
(that would mean a tore up house and nobody getting to bed
by bedtime and 2) I'd just wake up at 3am like I had
somewhere to be. I wouldn't be able to fall back to sleep
or worse yet, I'd sleep for 12 hours and then be tired
(either way) tomorrow. Why is bedtime and a normal sleep
schedule so impossible for me? If my 4 month old baby can
put himself into a healthy sleeping pattern, you'd think I
could do it for myself!

I had a plan this morning. Of course, it's the days I try
to plan that always fall apart. I wanted to get the RAV's
tire fixed, buy a birthday present for Annie's friend (her
party's tomorrow), buy a shower gift for Lacey (her baby
shower is Sunday), go pick up my paycheck and then deposit
it in the bank (while I was remembering it's payday. Last
week Rebecca handed me a stack of three paychecks I
neglected to collect. They all wonder why I bother
working. I wonder why I haven't signed up for direct
deposit yet).

Instead of getting an early start like I'd planned. I hung
around so I could watch Obama's first news conference as
president-elect. It wasn't anything he hasn't said before.
He's choosing his words carefully. Better safe than sorry,
I guess. I was slightly irritated by how many times he
said "um" while answering questions. It was obvious those
pauses were moments of thought on his part. Which isn't
such a bad thing. A president that thinks before he speaks
would be a welcomed change. I like him, don't get me
wrong. He was my candidate of choice, but I'm not blinded
by his charisma. He isn't perfect, just a VAST
improvement.

Just as I was about to leave to run my errands, I
discovered that we didn't have any water. I turned on the
faucet in the bathroom and nothing came out. I tried the
kitchen, same thing. The toilet flushed, but didn't
refill. So, I had to call housing about that. Almost two
hours later, they showed up only to find out the whole
problem was Kiki's doing. Why I don't know, but our water
mains are located in the playroom and she turned off both
valves. That child. We've been here for over a year and
she never touched those valves until today. That threw my
schedule off course.

I was still able to get the RAV's tired fixed. They say
you can't get anything for free anymore, but I beg to
differ. They removed the spare, added air to it, mounted
it back in the little tire-thingy on the back, fixed the
screw hole in the alloy wheel and put it back on for me
for nothing. They even added air to the other three tires
and tightened all the lug nuts. In all actuality, it isn't
that much work, but in this day and age companies find
ways to charge you for doing nothing (for example Geek
Squad charges you just for TALKING to a geek).

I got Annie's hair cut again. It's the only downside of
cutting her hair so short and into such an interesting
shape. It needs to be cut at least every 6 weeks. I miss
her long hair. I don't know if she does, but I do. I think
I'll try to coax her into letting it grow out. Her hair
grows amazingly fast, it wouldn't take long.
Unfortunately, I think she likes her low maintenance hair.

I wasn't able to do my other errands today, so I've got an
early day ahead of me tomorrow. The birthday party is at
Chuck E. Cheese's and I don't know if I have to stay or
not, but I'm planning that I will so I'm not pissed off
when I have to. After that I'll get Lacey's shower gift.

Man, I can't wait for bed... Ciao.
