That Soft Valley

*****

I'm writing early tonight. Very early (it's not even 5pm
yet) because I don't think I'll want to write later.
Snookums and I are going out on a date :) I've had such a
great day. Time alone with Snookums is just icing on the
cake.

In an effort to be more spontaneous Snookums woke up this
morning at 7am and decided to take the family to the
Puyallup Fair. It's a big deal in Western Washington
(although I'm not sure why, but then again I'm not really
the county fair type). Last time we went I was three
months pregnant with Kiki and the smell combination of
fair food and animal shit made me want to hurl. The
weather man had been wrong about the weather (he said it
was going to be cold and it was HOT), so I was overheating
on top of being nauseated and it was insanely crowded. I
never wanted to go back, but Snookums talked me into it.
I'm glad he did, because the girls had a fantastic time!

Kiki went on her first carnival ride! The Matterhorn.
Every time the ride whipped around she had a different
look on her face. Sheer terror, excitement, panic,
giggles, tears. But by the time she got off, she was
hooked and had to go on every ride she was tall enough to
ride. Annie went on most of them with her. Daddy did a
few. Keenan and I just watched. Well, I watched and Keenan
found that soft valley in my chest and passed out cold. It
was a fun day.

While we were there, we walked through the barns. They had
cows, llamas, sheep and miniature horses on display for
you to look at and pet. There was this one young cow that
really took a liking to Kiki. It was so sweet. He bent his
head down to her level and she petted his head and talked
softly to him. It was really touching. I'm so glad I don't
eat meat. He was a prize-winning cow, so I'm hoping that
spares him from the slaughter house, but I doubt it. I say
I'm not vegetarian for animal-rights reasons, but I've
seen slaughter house footage (PETA videos. Don't watch
them unless you want to cry) and it's hard to look at food
the same way. Those images stay with you.

On a whim I called our babysitter to see if she could
watch the kids tonight. We did our family thing today,
but I think it would be fun to go see a movie together.
Maybe go out to dinner. It's been over a month since our
last date when we first hired Amy. Even though I feel
slightly guilty about it, I don't really see anything
wrong with us going out tonight. After all, he's leaving
in week. I'll have plenty of time to be with the children.

I'd better go get ready. I might still write tonight, but
I can't make any promises. Ciao.
