A Tough-As-Nails Reputation

****

I'm exhausted. Keenan woke up for an uncharacteristic 4am
feeding, which totally threw off my sleep schedule. I
wasn't able to fall back to sleep, because I'd already
gotten 6 hours and my body thought it was wake-up time.
So, my day has been unusually long (because I woke up so
early).

I think I've developed a tough-as-nails reputation in the
neighborhood. One I rightfully deserve. One I hope keeps
my neighbors at bay. Annie had her reading camp thing this
morning and when I got home from picking her up from it,
the hens were clucking in my neighbor's front yard. As I
got out of the car, they all stopped talking and looked at
me. Like, they expected me to go postal on them or
something. I just pretended like none of them were there.
Then they went back to talking about wherever it is the
chick I cussed out is moving to. Good riddance to her.
She's nothing but a busybody. I hope she saw Annie get out
of the car and run off down the street.

I've found my babysitter! I'm so glad I gave Amy a chance
and didn't settle for the first person that answered the
flier. Charlotte (the lady I met with yesterday) was nice
enough, for sure. The only thing I don't like is that
she's got issues. Mainly, her and her husband are fighting
and are planning to divorce. She's moving back home in
November (yes, she shared all this during an "interview".
Which I found slightly inappropriate even if it wasn't a
real interview). Not to mention her own son has no
bedtime, so how can I be sure she'll honor my children's
bedtime? Amy came with her aunt this afternoon and before
I could even open the screen door, I was impressed by her.
She's 15 years old, but she came dressed nicely (not
dressed up, but she looked nice) and she had her resume in
hand. I was pretty much blown away by her references and
volunteer work. She's got a lot of experience. Her last
family had a set of infant twins! She volunteered for two
years in a nursing home (which holds a special place in my
heart, because I did the same thing in high school). After
talking for about 40 minutes, I hired her on the spot.
Snookums came home right as they were leaving, but he did
get to meet her and his first impression of her was very
favorable, so we're going out this weekend! Our first time
out alone together in about a year! We'll just do dinner
and a movie, but it's adult time we wouldn't get
otherwise.

I had a great night at work. I got to work with the
manager that's replacing Jenny. Her name is Rebecca and I
like her a lot. She's pretty relaxed, but does her job
well. I didn't have to help her with anything, which is
good. We've had people come in to fill management
positions in the past that had to be helped with all their
responsibilities. Rebecca knows what she's doing. I think
she might have transferred from another store, but I'm not
sure. There wasn't much of a crowd tonight. The mall was
quiet. I like those kinds of nights, though. It gives us
plenty of time to get our panty tables in order so we
don't have to stay as long once the mall is closed. I love
working, but these days I have my breast comfort and
Keenan's feeding schedule on my mind. I like being home
before 10pm.

I've lost 5 pounds this week, yet for some reason I feel
like I can't get rid of this weight fast enough. I'm being
very good about eating enough and not getting obsessive
about dieting. I'm not dieting at all, really. I'm just
making good food choices. It's just SO hard not to throw
myself into it gung-ho. REALLY hard. The pants I wore to
work today were a pair I bought when I was newly pregnant.
They fit around my swelling waist just fine then, but
tonight I pulled them off without unbuttoning or unzipping
them. That made me feel good. Even if it was annoying that
my pants kept falling down.

I'm so tired. I'm sure Snookums will be glad to hear that
I'm ready for bed. Ciao.
