My Life Thus Far

Joy of Joys!

****

Compared to yesterday, I'd have to say today was pretty
much a success. Kiki started the day off on a good note by
peeing in the toilet. It wasn't so much her finally
figuring it out as it was me getting lucky and putting her
on the potty at the right time. She was proud of herself
for doing it, but an hour later peed on the kitchen floor.
So, we've still got a long way to go. She isn't quite as
militant (or anti-potty) as she was yesterday. I think
we're wearing her down. I know for a fact she's resentful,
though. Her last trip to the bathroom before bed, she told
me Dora isn't her friend anymore. It took me a minute to
figure that one out, but I did. Her potty chair has Dora
the Explorer on it. Apparently she now hates Dora (whom
she once loved), because she's decorating the potty chair.
I almost feel bad about that, but better Dora than me. She
still loves me (and daddy, too...I think).

Keenan has a diaper rash that just won't quit. His poor
little butt was so raw there was a little blood when I
wiped him this morning. He poops SO much it's hard to keep
him clean and dry. Sometimes he poops while you're
changing a poop and he ALWAYS pees on Snookums. We go
through at LEAST 18-20 diapers a day. I change him before
I feed him (so he's clean and dry while eating and just in
case he falls asleep at the breast. I wouldn't want to
wake him up just to change him). Sometimes after he eats,
too if he's made poopy-noises while eating. Still, he gets
this recurring rash. Kiki had the same problem and had to
have a prescription cream called Triple Mix (which I think
they sell in an over the counter form now). I buy the
highest percentage of zinc oxide ointment I can find
(original Desitin, 40% zinc oxide)and A&D ointment to
create a physical barrier. This keeps the rash from
getting worse, but there's always some level of
redness on the little cheeks. Kiki didn't get over her
recurring rash completely until she was almost 3 months
old and stopped pooping as much. She still gets a rash now
if she isn't changed right away. My children inherited
sensitive skin from daddy. He loves Desitin on his nuts
(don't tell him I told you that)! Keenan doesn't seem to
notice the rash. He doesn't cry when we change him and his
fussiness is actually getting better, so I suspect it's
bothering me more than him. Which is fine. I'd prefer it
be that way.

So that's the state of my little childrens' potty issues.
I'm sure the three people that read this really wanted to
know. But hey, this is what my life consists of. If that
was too much information for you, then I'd suggest you
stop reading now. Just a friendly warning :)

We had the most interesting thing for dinner tonight. I'd
never heard of it before going grocery shopping this past
weekend, but I figured it was low fat, high in protein and
interesting (to prevent getting bored with healthful
eating). Butterball Filet Mignon. Yep, turkey. It's a
chunk of turkey breast wrapped in a strip of bacon and it
was FABULOUS. We threw it on the grill for 20 minutes
(we've been cooking everything on the grill. I love it)
and it was amazing. It was so good in fact, the cats
wouldn't eat their canned food and begged for some under
the table. Which they know not to do, but we excused them
because it was pretty tempting. I shared with Zoe,
Snookums shared with Zeus. So, the point of that paragraph
was if you come across Butterball Filet Mignon, it's
pretty tasty :)

I didn't know this, but the La Leche League has an online
store! Why didn't someone tell me that?! I was surfing the
web, reading breastfeeding articles and info, when I saw
an ad on one of the sites. I clicked on it and started
looking at some of the nursing bras. They had my size! Joy
of joys! Some of the styles were really pretty, too. I
went ahead and joined the La Leche League, which doesn't
mean anything more than that I'm getting newsletters now,
but it was kind of required to buy this cute, lacy nursing
bra and panty set. I'm looking forward to getting that in
1-3 days. Most nursing bras are pretty utilitarian and
lack any kind of style or attractiveness. At least, in the
circus tent sizes I wear.

While on the La Leche League site, I read up on the
anatomy of the human breast, good breast feeding
techniques and how to best protect my milk supply. I
hadn't really read up on anything other than nursing
positions before. I learned how the breast works to
produce milk, what let-down reflex really is and how it
works, the difference between hindmilk and foremilk (there
is no difference. The fat in breast milk sticks to the
ducts and the water in milk gravitates towards the
nipples, thanks to gravity). It was amazing. It also
reaffirmed to me that I'm doing the right things and
Keenan is eating enough. Keenan and I have very good
technique and letting him decide when he feeds, how long
he feeds and on which side he feeds is really the best
way. We've gotten to the point where he doesn't have to
show any hunger cues. My body tells me he'll be hungry
about 30 minutes before he starts sucking on his fingers
or rooting on Snookums' chest. The human body is so
amazing.

Snookums is pressuring me to get off the computer and I
know what he wants, but I'm not sure if I'm 100% on board.
As I'm sure every woman that's had a baby knows, there
hasn't been much hanky-panky in our household lately.
Before Snookums left I was big and uncomfortable and not
really in the mood. He left May 1st for 6 weeks, so no sex
then. I'd just had Keenan when he got home, so he was cut
off because of that. So, it's been a good 3 or 4 months
since Snookums or I have seen any action. Last night
Snookie's desire got the better of him and he tried to "go
in". My bleeding has stopped, but there are still
stitches. It didn't hurt, it actually felt pretty good,
but I know I'm not supposed to be doing that. My doctor
said 6-8 weeks at minimum. The standard recovery time, but
maybe even a little longer because of the extent and
location of the tear. It's only been 5 weeks and a couple
days. Snookums was gentle to see if it would end up
hurting today. It didn't, so he wants to try again tonight
and see if he can move a little faster. He was too scared
to finish last night. He said he could feel the stitches.
Which is what makes me a little leery. If they're still
there, then there's a chance they could get pulled or
tugged on and that could be potentially painful. I just
feel bad making him wait any longer. Especially since I
came last night just from him bobbing his tip in two
inches :) We'll see how it goes.

Keenan is screaming bloody murder. I'd better rescue him
from daddy. Ciao.
