living out life
At the Horse Park
We happen to live in horse country and there is a horse
park only a few miles from our house, so this afternoon we
went to watch my sons girlfriend practice polo. As anyone
who knows me can tell you, Im not too fond of horses, but
it was pretty interesting.
It kind of reminded me of my sons soccer game
except
they were on horses
and they used wooden mallets to hit
the ball
and the ball was much smaller
and the field was
huge... and there didnt seem to be any discernible
positions. Okay, maybe it wasnt like soccer, but it was
interesting nonetheless.
I did learn that in a polo game they play 6 seven minute
periods called chuckers and most of the players have at
least two horses that they switch in and out. Some of them
have more than that. Seven minute periods seem to be about
right because both horse and rider came off the field hot
and sweaty. Maybe we can catch one of her games soon.
